    Keyboard / mouse ideas?

If you like "clicky" keyboards, then you can't really go past something like an IBM Model-M keyboard. Pick one up cheap and it'll survive a bomb blast. Very heavily built and absolutely awesome to type on, especially compared to "chicklet" keyboards on modern laptops and the cheap rubber-dome...

    My BIG project...

When I first saw that picture, I'm like, "Hey! Vintage toner cartridges." Someone will clearly have to take me out the back and give me a good kick. Great haul! I'm sure you've got all the suction you could ever need right there.

Is Henkel up to something here

Drive Thats another major favourite of mine, too. I personally rank it better than Omo, although I know others are perfectly happy with it. Always seem as though the Omo I get clumps up and is an odd, gritty type of powder. Scent is "fresh," at least to my nostrils. The Drive is better, but...

Time for another new car already....

Even if extra warranties can be a bit of a waste, the manufacturers themselves can be tight bastards when it comes to getting something fixed. We had a segment on the evening news here the other night explaining the "most unreliable" cars. Turns out that GM-Holden, Ford, VW/Audi and Jeep are...

    For anyone interested....

It would be easy enough to determine whether or not the product has been subtly changed, without any alterations to packaging. Just check out the PLU (barcode) strip between two products. If there is a difference of some sort, then I'm pretty sure it would earn itself a separate barcode.

Is Henkel up to something here

Dynamo doesn't smell too bad, and although I didn't use Hurricane, the wiff from bottles seemed fresh enough, but not too overwhelming. I think even Spree disappeared from our country IGA's stored the last few months. Replaced with more evil pods ( and Cold Power *scowls*) , of course.

Sellers Who List "Sold" in CL Adverts

If the listing is like eBay and has a set time then maybe this is to blame for the problem, or people that are just too lazy. Faced this issue myself when searching for a laser printer. Initially found a nice HP Laserjet 4 machine a little ways away. Upon contacting the seller, was informed the...

How Long is a Piece of String? ... However long you make it. The same is true of Australian water. Depending on the source, it can be anything from almost like rainwater (in terms of softness and taste), taste putrid and still be relatively soft, stink badly of rotten eggs (bore water), be...

    Tea Stains

Whatever You Do... Don't use Windex, despite how much some people swear by (or at) it. This suggestion was made at Church one day after a lady, expecting the usual clear plastic piece to cover the tablecloth, dropped her teabag on a brand new Christmas-themed table cloth. Suffice to say...

    An Interesting House

Prices? Painful to say the least, even for Perth. This one sold a few years back (2012) for about $800,000 if the online listings are correct. Not sure if its an average of bigger-than-average house for the Kardinya area, although our five bedroom monstrosity that we sold in 2010 was too big...

    An Interesting House

Walk past this one fairly often. Absolutely does not fit in with the surrounding houses constructed roughly the same timeframe (70s or 80s). But the interior of this one appears to be original, lots of dark woodtones, beautiful carpets and that sort of thing. Absolutely digging it...

    UNUSED GE Pot scubber Dishwasher

I don't hold the opinion 120º is enough for washing. For most loads, its perfectly adequate, although used frequently enough, I found previously that odours can and would buildup in our machine. Also was nowhere near impressed on plenty of occasions the way the dishes came out after a greasy...

    Disney Guest Laundry Upgrade: Maytags!

Absolutely "love" that sticker preaching the benefits of cold-water laundering. Given the criminal rates charged at laundromats that have no representation of the real cost of washing clothes (mere cents, if that), I wouldn't hesitate to ensure I used hot for everything. E.g. Many laundries...

    water heaters and water softeners

@john From what I've read - I think those GE/Sears (etc) units are all based on the rotary control valve design by NorthStar. Perhaps not the most reliable, but very cheap to repair if it comes to that. New units do away with manual setup, set your hardness, number of people and it goes from...

My 2nd TV story to air this month

Maybe try another browser, Kevin. Chrome spat the dummy for me, although that might be the flash blocker at work. Sea Monkey seemed to work just fine. An interesting piece, Leon. Would've been great if they had more space to go in-depth, but just having the opportunity to present "washer...

    water heaters and water softeners

Rain water is often seen as rather corrosive. That said - my gradfather's old farm house has had the stuff for 60 years (since new), cast iron "mains" pipes that still haven't given up the ghost (though one wonders). His water heater, a solar unit, has sat upon the roof for about 30yrs now and...

    water heaters and water softeners

The system we had at home is the ubiquitous Fleck 5600 - ubiquitous in the USA, not so sure here in Australia because I think water softening applications are very limited to a few select areas in reasonably remote areas. On the back is a sticker plastered on that says "Salt Setting 9LBS."...

    Hard drive hook-ups

Entering BIOS is a good step, too. If you have a manual for the system, you may want to consult that to check what settings need to be altered to get things working. Some systems will actually halt their POST sequence and alert you to a change in system configuration took place so you can check...

    Hard drive hook-ups

I presume the item you are talking about is specifically made to adapt hard disks from a laptop into a traditional desktop PC. If not - you might consider a hard disk enclosure made specifically for this purpose. What I suspect has happened is Windows is not "seeing" the drive because you've...

    water heaters and water softeners

Be wary in dialling back your salt setting is all I have to say. Eventually you'll get to the point where you're using salt, but you still have hard water. The factory setting gives you about 75% capacity of the resins. To get 100% capacity, salt usage has to be doubled from whatever the...
