Is Fisher & Paykel Still a Viable Laundry Option?

Personally, I believe F&P has the HE-TL machine done right. They're programmed flexibly, can still be run on 'water wasting' options very easily and are mechanically simple. YouTube videos of agitation show a machine that turns over loads very well compared to others. The SmartDrive...

When did GE start using electronics?

GE Jet Engines Well - the CF6 used on the A300, A310, 747, 767, DC10 and later the A330 wasn't all that great in the beginning. Due to its size (length) - the main shafts warped and damaged bearings. Early models couldn't be started in a tailwind or they'd over-heat. These days the CF6 (747...

Let's Talk About Heating Shall We?

Lack of Recouped Costs The same reason our 30+ year old central A/C has not been retired yet. Mini-splits might save oodles of power - but try justifying that when installation costs are $8000+ for 4-5 units. It would still take at least 7-10years to get the cost back, and we might not even...

When did GE start using electronics?

GE 2800 Commercial Musical scoring was done by Suzanne Ciani - an early advocate of synthesizers for musical productions. This resulted in me purchasing her "Seven Waves" album. Really amazing what can be done with the technology of the day!

When did GE start using electronics?

GE's foray into electronic controls was in the early 1980s. Such products such as the GE Potscrubber 2100, 2500 and 2800 (the former may have been 2200, I cannot recall), plus their line of TV's, Microwaves and Refrigerators all received electronic controls in this period. Images below -...

What are the advantages of SxS refrigerators if any?

I mean, sure it'll eliminate some of my whinges... But for $2700 PLUS the energy consumption beneath all that Stainless: I think I'd pass (with more than a 10ft pole and all the screaming, yelling and sprinting you can muster).

    Just Me... Or?

From my trip to the US - It seems as though most ranges, even the cheapest models are equipped with a Self-Cleaning Lining. Here in Australia, such a feature is seemingly reserved for the most expensive models. Our MOL Westinghouse has 3 removable self-cleaning liners for the most spattered...

What are the advantages of SxS refrigerators if any?

On the odd occasions I've come across these things, a couple of points strike me: - Doors are huge and bulky, for no apparent reason in some instances - They're too skinny: No room for anything remotely large (i.e. bulk purchased meats, pre-packed products etc) - They're really, really...

    Windows 10???

If your present machine is bogging, do a reinstall after backing up your data. Seriously: it will be like a new machine, and on the plus side, you won't have to deal with a new OS, new problems (seems most new software these days are "public betas," and can only be trusted as such) and turning...

Widescreen/HD TV; your take on it

    - Red Colours on New TV As I understand, on the CRT tubes, Red is the first colour that starts deteriorating followed by blue, IIRC. - Plasma TV We've got a 42" Panasonic from 2007. It may well be on its way out, there is a spot in the centre which is brighter with static at times, and...

    Kenmore Portable Dishwasher

@murando351 I remember reading one of Bob's (Appnut) posts from a long time ago related to the filter-purges on his then-new Whirlpool machine. What you've described sounds very familiar. Its cool to learn how these self-cleaning filters work!

Found this old G.E. dishwasher and this Magic Chef 20 pound washer

I guess this must be one of the first Potscrubber machines released after GE finished with the Rapid Advance 1200 series. As I understand, the little "mini wash-arms" they used to replace the original multi-orbital system could have trouble with binding. Overall, I'd say its still a...

    Are you a Sudsophobe ? A Rinsoholic ?

With mechanically-softened water back home, I'll be the first to admit I'm a real stickler for extra rinses on the Dishwasher and washer. Soon after her triumphant arrival into the laundry, the Miele's "Water Plus" setting was altered to increase the water level AND add a rinse. That is...

Anybody else completely fed up with the long wash times

The common load of laundry is often at half the machine's rated capacity. Our Miele runs a full Cotton's 60ºC (HOT) cycle in about 2:14 with the "Water Plus" (Higher level + Extra Rinse) engaged. This is subject to some alteration based on the load size. If you're only washing a half load...

Who makes this G.E. Monogram dishwasher..

Here is the original Regency machine from the 1980s or 1990s. The image was originally posted by Peteski50. The Dishlex machines from the 1980s and 1990s (particularly the former) had a very good reputation for reliability here in Australia. I doubt that any export model would be...

    Whirlpool Durawash Bobload!

No photos from the load last night, but the results were beyond expectation Cooked the potato bake and most of it found its way into the our stomach's with some in the fridge for good measure :) This left a pan with lightly burnt on cheese/cream sauce as well as your usual...

    Whirlpool Durawash Bobload!

Well, the machine I've mentioned did handle about 2-3 tablespoons of rice last night. No traces left on the sump grate - although some redeposition was found on one or two small saucers. Unfortunately most other soft food gets caught on the grate for you to fish out manually.

    Whirlpool Durawash Bobload!

I ran a reasonably heavy load through the machine I've been using here in the US last night, consisting of: - Some everyday dishes/cups/cutlery - Pots (used to steam vegetables/cook rice) - Pyrex baking dish, used for oven-cooked, breaded chicken - Apple-Pie dish from a couple of days ago...

Hoover Electra 535 Dual Spin - Dream Machine

Leave it to me to make a mistake before its even late enough to blame fatigue! Thanks for the explanation, Matt. Personally, aside from perhaps leaving a 'moist' load of laundry to sit and stew overnight, I wonder just how effective this sort of feature really is in protecting...

    Owner of new GE set

The friends I am staying with here in Texas have just bought a new and reasonably well-equipped GE TL set that have been discussed. I found the idea of filling with the lid open *interesting* when I did a "hot wash" today. If the hot tap is open, it will keep on fill with the lid open -...
