Now this was a Surprize - Antonio Merloni Made HOOVER

Antonio made some for non EU, UK & AUS Markets I think. Not for the Australian market AFAIK.   After production ended here in the late 90's, they imported the New Wave 1200F and an 800F. The 800F was a rebadged Beko.   All other machines have been Candy based...

    Gorenje or Fisher and Paykel??

One thing to note Choice now only tests with a 3.5kg partial load.   This is because the average sized load done, regardless of machine size, is between 3 and 4kg.   I believe Which? tests with either an 80% or 100% loading based on the stated capacity of the machine.

How do I launder vintage bath towels?

How much product?? Tim, that is one hell of a lot of chemicals to clean what are essentially already 'clean', new towels.   If you need that quantity of chemicals to wash new, clean items, how much do you use when they're actually dirty?

    SQ water usage

Suds save machines Do a good job at reducing water usage in a top load machine when used correctly.   My mother had a solid tub Simpson Fluid drive (4 speed programmed - Leon has one) that, if memory serves correctly, used 13 Imp gallons per fill, so 26 gallons per wash cycle. Capacity was...

    Sunbeam Mixmaster eBay crazieness

And I too have received a gift from Kelly. He posted me a set of dough hooks for a 1960's A12 - they were never available here. A truly lovely man and a gentleman to boot.

Minivan opinions and going to be applying for my first car loan!

Well from what I can gather, the Mazda MPV from 2002 came with a 3.0 V6 and 5spd automatic. This is a Mazda AJ series motor. The previous, smaller V6 was a Ford motor.

Minivan opinions and going to be applying for my first car loan!

That's a new one on me.   I worked around the motor industry until 2000 and am a keen motorist with more than a passing interest in the geekier, statistical side of cars more than the performance.   Only the first Odyssey was sold in this country with a V6 and then only the top model. All...

Minivan opinions and going to be applying for my first car loan!

Firstly The Mazda 626 was, and has always been, a Mazda design.   Yes, Ford had part ownership of Mazda for many years....and FORD used to effectively badge engineer the 626 in a couple of markets, most noticeably here in Oz where it was marketed for a number of years from 1983/4 until about...

Minivan opinions and going to be applying for my first car loan!

Brands of car and reliability ...can change from one model to the next.   The first of the Kia mini-vans were inflicted with a batch of poor 2.7 litre V6 engines. Kia eventually replaced these under warranty in this country. The later cars with this engine and all subsequent engines have been...

    SQ vs. other companies

have noticed pilling starting to happen on them already Steve,   Sometimes it can be down to the quality of the fabric, but I can honestly say that I have never experienced pilling of any sort on my clothes unless it's a high contact area due to wearing them such as socks in shoes.   Towels...

    SQ vs. other companies

Olav First. It was Choice magazine not CR. Get it right if you're going to launch a tirade aimed at my posts please.     Second. You claim that the taxpayer funded schemes to encourage the use of water saving appliances has failed. How about some proof to back your statement?     You...

    SQ vs. other companies

If that's all it takes, that's fine.   You don't need litres of cream and fillet steak to be a good cook. Likewise, the test above proves you don't need to spend lots of money or use huge quantities of water to effectively wash or rinse clothes.

Here it was done by State governments and Councils.   ....and the American political system is a WHOLE different beast as are the American population.

    SQ vs. other companies

You've forgotten Hoover.   Hoover sold front load machines in Australia from the mid-1960's until they stopped manufacturing here, though they are again available. Originally imported, they became locally produced from the mid-late 1970's and stayed that way until around 1999.   They were...

    SQ vs. other companies

That's an interesting calculator I've just done a comparison of the three key costs - water, gas and electricity, Canberra to Chicago based on the costs that Jonathan used above.   Off our last bills:   Water -AUS$2.75 per Kl (about US$8.50 per 1000 USgallon) Electricity - AUD$0.17 Kwh...

    Your opinions, please! Oatmeal Cookies.........

From an Australian perspective it's almost impossible to go past the ANZAC biscuit.   I prefer them crunchy and tend to use a little more butter and golden syrup so they 'spread' to a thinner biscuit. http://www.anzacday.org.au/history/ww1/anecdotes/bikkies.html

    Tide

Looks like its from Thailand or Vietnam - probably Vietnam.   Should work well given it'll be a Levers formula and their brand quality is solid.

Paul If it's Australian OMO, then it's a great powder and equivalent to Persil.   Could you post a link as there are multiple types with the OMO Ultimate theoretically being the best. http://www.unilever.com.au/brands-in-action/detail/OMO/304209/?WT.contenttype=view%20brands
