This is an old recipe that always makes us feel good when we have it - I spice it up a little but you could season it in endless ways. Some call it "Shepard's Pie" but to me I always thought that should have ground lamb in it. Whatever you call it, it's a nice meal in one dish.

My oldest sister learned smething extremely similar to this in Home Ec in like 1964 or 1965.  She couldn't believe I still remembered her making this.  ne of my childhood favorite4s.

Its all in a name

Kevin

Thanks for another great recipe, although it is one very popular over here and very widely available ready made in the shops. Not as good as home made though :)

I believe that Shepherds Pie should contain minced lamb, we call it Cottage Pie if it is minced beef, although its essentially the same otherwise.

Love watching your videos, but it is nice to have the recipe posted separately, as well, so one doesn't have to take notes while enjoying the cooking show! Another comfort-food homerun, Kevin.

Looks like the recipe was created on an ancient device we called a 'typewriter', LOL!

Thanks, all!

Kevin & Eugene - happy to post the recipe...I had time to "type" it out!

Alistair - I love the name "cottage pie" - I'm sure there are lots of great variations on this dish in the UK!

Al's rules apply to Oz too

Mine is quite similar:

500gm /1lb minced beef

1 large onion - diced

1 clove garlic / equivalent from jar

1/2 mixed herbs

1 Tablespoon flour

3 cups frozen mixed vegetables - cooked

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Can chopped tomatoes

2 tablespoons tomato sauce/ketchup

Salt/pepper to taste

mashed potato to top (preferably made with butter and pepper only)

Brown minced beef with onion and garlic until onion translucent and meat renders fat (do not drain). Add herbs and season well with pepper and a little salt and cook for a few more minutes. Sprinkle with flour and continue to cook for another couple of minutes. Add all vegetables and mix through along with sauces. Keep stirring and when thickened, adjust seasonings.

Pour into a suitable casserole dish and top with mashed potato. Bake @ 180c/350F until top colours - 30-40 minutes.

Another entertaining video. I like the "dinner table" finish. I'm glad to hear California's not the only place where the once economical ground beef is now luxury priced.

Not a good time to be a chicken...
