Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

Meanwhile, in Southern California... In Palm Springs, our gas and electric rates are tiered.  But we do have the option of switching the electricity to time-of-use.   Gas starts out at $0.05/kWh and then increases by 2 cents to $0.07/kWh. Electricity starts out at $0.35/kWh and then goes up...

    Recycling Scam

I have noticed that I’m being charged the deposit when I buy bottled drinks in Dublin. I have zero intention of taking my used bottles/cans to a location that gives me the deposit back. I don’t use enough to make it worthwhile. Mark

    Whirlpool DD Oil Leak

Hi John Thanks so much for that. I’ll pass this info on to him. He might want to take this opportunity to replace the machine but it’s always good to have options and to know what you’re dealing with! Thanks again Mark

    Whirlpool DD Oil Leak

Hi guys I have a friend whose Whirlpool direct drive laundry center appears to have leaked oil onto the floor. I think the machine has been working fine and the oil was only noticed when the machine happened to be moved out of its normal position. Is it normal for DDs to leak some oil over...

    Radon

Interesting.  I'd never really given much thought to radon, being that I'm from an area that doesn't have a problem with it.   So I've just watched this video from the UK government:

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

Hi guys.  Thanks for all the replies.   John, thanks for explaining that.  I will buy an early Point Voyager model and put it through its paces.  It's fun to try different models and see what they're like.   It wouldn't surprise me if the YouTube guy in reply #24 is having those problems due...

    BobLoad Recipes

That's a great idea, Andrew.  I do enjoy a good BobLoad™️.  Nice to see you around these parts and thanks for the reply in the Cascade/Boil Out thread.     Mark

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

Thanks for all the good responses.  Enjoyed reading through those.  Dan, it sounds like something might be wrong with your machine.  Surely what you describe can't be normal operation, can it?!   If the model with the Clean Water Wash system in my first photo (KDTM354DSS4) is still for sale...

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

Thanks, Alan and Bob. Alan, do you happen to remember the model number of this Kenmore dishwasher? I’d be interested to download the manual and look at the cycle chart. Mark

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

Thank you very much for the insight, Dan and Alan.   I don't have much experience with relatively modern American dishwashers, so I want to expand my horizons by trying a few of them out and probably passing them on (unless they are worth keeping).     Is this Kenmore Elite dishwasher a...

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

Hi Henrik   From the information I've been able to glean from this site, some dishwashers with those targeted rear jets do not have a diverter and they do run the upper and lower spray arms at the same time.  When the rear jet zone option is selected by the user, there is an electromagnet...

Point Voyager versus Clean Water Wash

What do you guys think about these two different KitchenAid dishwashers that are for sale close to me?  Is one better than the other?   Photo #1 is the Clean Water Wash version from several years ago.  I assume this alternates spray arms.   Photo #2 looks like it might be an older Point...

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Thanks!  I did buy a couple of the Miele Professional dishwasher detergents when I lived in Spain for use in my Miele G550.  My local Miele dealer in Spain was able to order me anything I wanted.  I don't know about the UK though.

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Hi Alex. It may have been discontinued but it's still currently being sold and fortunately I have a stash. There are also equivalent products available in Europe, such as Finish Professional powder and Sun Professional powder, both of which contain 30% phosphate and chlorine bleach. It's...

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Thanks for posting those links and telling us about your experience with the mighty Mobile Maid, Launderess. The ingredients lists are interesting and I have seen some of those before, including the AW link you posted. The patent was interesting to see too. So it sounds like Boil Out does...

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Hi Mark. Thanks, yes I can definitely notice the chlorine -- especially during the wash if the dishwasher has a vent that is permanently open. Launderess, thanks for chiming in! Hytron is one of the few I haven't yet tried. How sudsy was the original Cascade powder? Surprisingly, Boil Out...

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Hey Darryl. Thanks so much for the info. The reason I ask is that I have plenty of experience of using Boil Out in my vintage (and modern) dishwashers and I was wondering if my current experience is equal to how it would have been "back in the day" when these machines were new and people...

Creda Reversair tumble dryer belt needed.

Great job, Peter. Another vintage dryer lives to dry another day. Videos can't be uploaded to this site. You can upload a video to YouTube and then post the link in this thread. Mark

Vintage Cascade versus Fryer Boil Out

Hi guys I'm only familiar with modern Cascade detergents and Fryer Boil Out; I never had the opportunity to try the original Cascade chlorinated powder. Can anyone who has used both tell me if the old, chlorinated Cascade powder was identical to Boil Out? Do they smell the same, look the...
