Quick Trip and a ride in a dream car!

That is interesting about them trying to sell Vauxhalls in USA. Some of them certainly looked more like American cars than British cars but I suppose the same applies to the larger Fords of that era. http://www.classicandperformancecar.com/front_website/octane_interact/carspecs.php/?see=3678

There is a video about this:

    New Ariel washes cleaner.....

That makes me feel old! I remember that advert quite well, especially the mans voice and words. Do you remember how the picture closed up in a star shaped iris effect then opened up in the next advert?

Now THIS is what im talking about! MONARCH 36

That 2nd one looks quite modern!

Hoover keymatic slowly coming back to life

I think the capacitor would have been around 20 microfarad, 450 volts ac. This site offer to look up the correct one for you: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/20uf-washing-machine-capacitor

    Hotpoint 1400 Microprofile 9567

I suppose it must have the smaller capacity drum used on the washer dryers. Perhaps 1400 was just too much for the standard 95 series drum. I remember the 1200 machines were less reliable than the 1000s as they tended to shake themselves to pieces.

    Hotpoint 1400 Microprofile 9567

If you could take a photo with the back off I would be interested. When I first looked at the photos I thought I was looking at a washer dryer but that would make it a 99 series, not a 95. I did work on a few of these 1400 spin machines but I don't remember them having a different cabinet.

    Time Capsule House For Sale

Do you think someone will buy it just to tear out the existing decor? I was looking at other houses on that site and there are plenty of much cheaper houses if you were looking for a "project".

    Hotpoint 1400 Microprofile 9567

Hotpoints sometimes came with a selection of spares rattling about in the bottom. If the assembly workers dropped anything small they just left it in there.

    Hotpoint 1400 Microprofile 9567

That clip is part of the plastic version of the pecker assembly. The pecker is a device mounted on the motor and linked by a Bowden cable to the door switch. It is a safety device to stop you opening the door when the drum is turning...

US Expat Describes The Best And Worst Things About England

I agree with a lot of the article. I'm pleased that she now realises how much Americans are squandering the planets limited resources, compared with the Brits. It is clear that she is living in Sussex, one of the most expensive parts of England for house prices, so her comments in that respect...

    Creda 17032 Supaspeed 1150

One of the last proper Creda machines before they started to re-badge Hotpoints. The main thing I remember was it was a pain to change the drum bearings as the front does not come off.

    80s Cook Electric Ad

Yes, a few years ago I wanted to buy a new spiral ring cooker with double oven but I don't think such a thing exists and the cookers I saw were flimsy junk. I have gone off ceramic hobs since the Tricity one I had cracked for no reason.

    Vintage Pifco Fairy Lights

We had some poinsettia ones similar to these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-16-FOOT-RETRO-STYLE-PLASTIC-POINSETTIA-STRING-CHRISTMAS-HOLIDAY-LIGHTS-/231083535176

    Trash Finds

Such a shame for all that stuff to go for scrap, particularly the AEG washer.

    Electric Blankets

I think I will stick with the trusty hot water bottle, although I have had burn blisters with those in the past. I try to make sure they are not too hot these days. My house does have cold floors so I do go to bed with cold feet sometimes but I now have an electric foot warmer so it is better to...

    Vintage Pifco Fairy Lights

I think modern lights are normally low voltage and come with a power supply adapter but at one time they tended to run low voltage bulbs wired in series, with the ends of the string connected directly to the mains. This was a pain if a bulb blew because the whole string went dead. You had to get...

    Vintage Pifco Fairy Lights

They all look a bit modern to me! I think I gave my parents old tree lights away at a vintage radio swap meet. They would have been early '60s ones as there are family photos of that era showing the decorated tree.

    Gas refrigerators....

Yes, the caravan fridges vent to outside but when I was a kid we had a gas fridge and the exhaust just vented into the room. I suppose in those days there was less awareness of carbon monoxide though, as a lot of gas water heaters were the same. In 1967 we moved to a rural location with no gas...
