question about a brand new Whirlpool washer

Cycles other than the normal cycle are included in the energy and water scores, weighted according to their expected percentage of use. If only the normal cycle was included, then the other cycles would be a free-for-all and there'd be nothing to complain about, right?

    Making Whole Wheat Bread

Breadmaker I used to make bread in large batches by hand. After waffling about it for a long time, finally got a Zojirushi Home Bakery Virtuoso. Does as good a job as I did, with far less work. And I feel more free to experiment since it only affects one loaf.

    Pigeons ahhhh get away

We put something like this on top of the railing of my mother's 16th floor balcony (or "terrace" as they call it in NYC). They could probably evade them, but it's easier to land on an unprotected balcony instead. http://www.amazon.com/Bird-X-Plastic-Polycarbonate-Spikes-Adhesive/dp/B0019F8IX6

New! Speed Queen v. LG: nagging questions

Lint While ferreting out cheap clothes a TL probably can't help breaking some small fibers in good clothes. That would explain the observation that clothes washed in an FL leave less lint on the dryer screen.

Installing multiple washers to one supply setup

Hose fittings made for outdoors The couplings sold in the garden aisle are made for outdoor use, I think. A leak outdoors is no big deal.

CU Report on Washers, May, 2016

1 hour wash tumble Both of my Mieles have an option for approximately one hour wash tumble. It's called Extended on the W4840, and Intensive on the Little Giant. The manuals recommend it for "laundry with normal to heavy soiling or stains". Without the option it's more like 1/2 hour. I use the...

looking for a new washer & dryer. ultimate in reliability: speed queen? miele?

Greg, I got a full refund back from SubZero Wolf for the Asko. Very happy about that. The Little Giant is holding up fine. In two months I probably haven't done the laundry it would do in two days in commercial use. My wife still uses our big Miele which is more conveniently located on the first...

looking for a new washer & dryer. ultimate in reliability: speed queen? miele?

The 20 lb. Miele Octoplus, with drum volume a bit under 3 ft3, is the only Octoplus model that'll work with residential plumbing (larger ones aren't available with drain pump). But Miele won't sell it for home use in the US, and says they won't service it if you somehow manage to...

Full cycle videos - Maytag Bravos XL (Oasis/Cabrio)

Nice video, thanks A suggestion: If you put a timeline in the description, like in the video linked below, YouTube automatically makes the timestamps into clickable links. Makes it easier for the viewer to skip to the next phase of the wash when he's seen enough of the current one...when...

Sears Coldspot chest freezer in DC area

This is in my basement. Runs but doesn't get cold. Free, but requires professional skill and equipment to remove safely, due to stairs, and tight alcove at top of stairs.

Temperature 3/4 of the temperature knob scale consists of less-than-warm settings, i.e. variants on a cold wash, ugh.

    Asko Question

Asko washer plug The plug on my current-model Asko was a standard NEMA 6-20P. Someone on gardenweb posted a picture of their older Asko's plug and it was the same thing. Don't need an Asko dryer to plug it into, just a NEMA 6-20R outlet.
