    Weird washing Ways

Coppers in AU My grandmother's house (1920's Californian-style in Melbourne) had a wood-fired copper in a enclosed external laundry with chimney built to the same standards as those for the fireplaces within the home. My parents first home (built 1951) had a gas-fired copper in the laundry...

    Bendix Washing Machine

Very exciting! What a wonderful find. That's the machine our neighbour had when I was growing up. She later replaced it with a Hoover Keymatic ... Good luck with bringing her back to life - it will be a rewarding project.

    My new birthday present

Lid warning ... What a curious machine. If it's any help, the German writing on the lid says not to turn the heating on without water in the wash tub. Looking at the layout, I'd take Keymatic's advice and not run the spinner with the lid open either ...

Give Mother the best Mothers day gift

Memories indeed ... I grew up with that machine, although we got ours in '63. Now, let's see if the ad is still available for purchase. It's a piece of AU history

    Official opening of'Leons Classic Appliances'

Beautiful Hi Leon, Wonderful! I recognise the edge of an 80's/90's Hoover in #1 ... and am pretty sure that's a shelf of Mistral Gyromatic fans in #8. I'm one of the lucky people who'd love to see the collection ... as I'm only 2 hours away in Melbourne! Seriously, what are your opening...

My new Creda Compact 3 tumble dryer from April 1978

How does the timer work? Is the timer clockwork? I ask because it looks like a later model of our family's first dryer, bought around 1970, and that had a clockwork timer. Quite a nuisance if you dialled past where you wanted to be (say, 45 minutes when you wanted 30), as it didn't like being...

I have some TV stars! (assuming the scenes don't get edited out)

Then there's the kitchen ... The weekly TV guide in one of our newspapers had this picture in it today. It certainly grabbed my attention. It seems they haven't limited themselves to the laundry appliances in trying to be time-period-true in their show. Isn't this like the stove-top/oven...

    Australian GE Potscrubber Dishwasher

Country of Origin? Hi Tim, Were these actually made here by Dishlex AU and rebadged as GE, or by the design parent of the Australian Dishlex family of the 70's, SMEG Italy? On the outside, they look like the Italian machines - it gets hard to tell! Cheers, Nick

    Australian GE Potscrubber Dishwasher

Definitely Dishlex When these came out and stood next to Dishlex machines in the shops, you could see they were related. As others have mentioned, before Dishlex were manufactured here, they were imported from Europe. We had a Dishlex/SMEG in the mid-70's. (photo) My aunt had the machine in...

Let's All Take A Trip To Germany

und dabei gibt's auch ... an, auf, hinter, in, neben, vor, unter, ueber, zswischen. Und dazu stehen noch: fuer, um, durch gegen, entlang, bis, ohne, wider - IMMER AKUSATIV The ad for Sunil was also very cute. Although I don't understand how we got from rinsing without additives to ready for...

    Zoppas Stovella Dishwasher?????

FWIW ... I'm sure these were sold in AU with a Dishlex brand back in the late 60s/early 70s. Lavastoviglia is Italian for "dishwasher". The "stoviglia" part suggests "service" or "place setting". The "Stovella" brand may have been a sound-pun on that word in Italian, much as "Dishlex"...

    Hoover 585

Nice They had a blue and white coloured panel, didn't they?

    A Very Strange Dishwasher

Maybe it's a washing machine ... with a rack Perhaps it was only ever meant to be used as a washing machine. The rack could be there as a convenience for when washing up dishes by hand, rather than being for mechanically cleaning them.

    An old Aussie laundry

Taps/Faucets The taps are interesting. Am I right guessing the one above the l/h trough is cold and that there is hot and cold above the r/h trough? That suggests to me they were thinking of washing by hand in the r/h and rinsing in the left. How old is the place? Was there a copper/boiler...

ASEA Cylinda 12000 Front Load Washing Machine

Asko ... Hi, I was going to mention the Asko angle, but you've already gone down that path. If they don't have the parts, I'm not too sure what your next move might be. Try a lot of Googling? http://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/index.php?cPath=69465_80643 Good luck! Cheers, Nick

    The Miele is home

German/English The buttons left to right are: Door On/Off Soak Pre-Wash "Water-plus" (higher water level?) Short (wash) The lights next to the time display indicate what time it's showing. The top one is: Delayed Start time (probably hours/minutes until cycle starts - no idea what you press...
