CR Backs Off Disputed Test Results

~Consumer Reports is forcing subscriptions because everyone I too, let my CR magazine subscription laps and I just buy the issues that I want. You may find it interesting that the only way you can subscribe to the online CR service is w/ a credit card or debit card and only w/ the renewing...

    Heat Pump Frosting - Defrosting

Glenn, also thanks for starting the thread, it’s a very fascinating subject. It makes me wish I had a heat-pump. You’re a very fortunate man. A month after I moved to Texas, my unit went out (21 year old Rheem High Efficiency) and the warranty company paid for my new unit (Payne w/ electric coil...

    Heat Pump Frosting - Defrosting

Glenn, thanks for posting the pictures. My favorite part of the de-frost is right at the end when the fan turns back on and you hear the compressor valve reverse, and the large cloud is blown upward for a few moments. Coooool!!!!! I like your thermostat. It sounds very high tech. Here’s the...

    Do modern washers count cycles?

A flaw in the counting system Most electronic appliances do count the cycles, but actually they only count the number of times one pushes the start/pause button and each is counted as a cycle. They don’t count completed cycles. As Rich said, “The Neptune 7500 washer counts cycles.” My Neptune...

    What would you buy today

Tomturbomatic I guess I wasn’t clear about the delicate tumbling in the LG. I was trying to say that the LG is the only front loader that will allow the user to select a gentle tumbling pattern and still allow the user to select spins between the wash and all of the rinses. It’s also the only...

How close are these electric rates?

I just got mine today, too. It was $214.32 for 2202 kWh, and last year in VA it was $80.66 for 860 kWh. It’s so close per unit that it’s almost the same. I keep my heat (Electric heat, no heat pump) on 72F for an hour and a half in the morning when I get up, 62F while I’m at work, 72F when I get...

How close are these electric rates?

Welcome to the world of front loaders, Bob. How does it feel to know that you’ll never be waiting on the dryer again?

How close are these electric rates?

Well, Glenn, you should be set for the winter anyway with that nice “heat pump.” I’ll bet that saves a lot of electricity. And it has those cool defrost cycles, too, where the steam is just rolling off the unit.

    What would you buy today

FL definitely go for LG TOMM. You get what you pay for. They have the most refined FLer. The machine fills in spurts to start and then long flushes so that the detergent doesn’t overflow out of the dispenser. It’s the only FL that allows the use of liquid detergent in the pre-wash and the...

    LG Nighmare continues

TROMM It doesn’t seem to be a problem using non-HE detergent in the TROMM as long as you use less. Mine’s a WM2688HNM in blue and yes, it’s stainless. Water Plus works in any cycle and adds about 2 or 3 gallons When you press and hold the WASH/RINSE and SOIL LEVEL buttons down at the same...

How close are these electric rates?

Bob, your bills should be going down since you got the FL. Glenn, from what you said earlier, it sounds like we’re all going to be paying more in TX.

    LG Nighmare continues

AWESOME LG TROMM! Shane, I don’t use bleach either, just the SANITARY Cycle. I use Tide w/ bleach power (Non-HE) for just about everything except things with oily stains. Then I use liquid Tide HE. Sometimes I use Gain Original Scent powder (Non-HE) just for the smell. I just started using...

WHO’S THE BAD GUY? LG OR GE WARRANTY SERVICE?! Peteski50 wrote, “He again explained he is trying to get in touch with LG but it is really the warrenty GE service that is responsible.” Peter shouldn’t you really be mad at the GE Warranty Service? I’m sorry that all of this happened to you, and...

How close are these electric rates?

Bob, I have Austin Energy, and in VA I had Dominion VA Power. The rates aren’t really that much higher in TX. The bills are because we have to run the A/C more, but I’m not complaining. Glenn, I’m saying to compare what everyone is paying, it’s simpler to divide the total bill by the KWH...

    Luv those Kitchen Aid

Bobbins-Bob, WOW, that thing is so big, I’m surprised you got it through the door! It looks great, and like it was born to be in that closet. Appnut-Bob, oh course I didn’t just throw that old beauty away. The Giant Appliance Guys took her to the clearance store and sold her to a new family...

How close are these electric rates?

A simple way to find out exactly how much you are paying including taxes and hidden charges is to take the total bill divided by the KWH used. This gives you the TOTAL price per KWH that you are paying. Many times the bill is confusing and charges 2 different rates, then adds taxes for state...

    Luv those Kitchen Aid

WOW, I love your washer and dryer, Bob, and that’s a nice sink! I didn’t know that the dryer reversed directions, so does the Danby dryer. We have the 300 watt Kitchen Aid Mixer w/o the fancy crank to raise and lower the bowl. It’s white w/ a red stripe and I think it’s from 1998. The little...
