WTW4816 6-year gearbox failure? Lucky you, mine had to be replaced the first week. I suspect my machine was built on a Friday. It's been replaced by a 25 year old Kenmore, and has retired to the garage.

To the contrary... I purchased from a reputable dealer here in St. Pete. They have a barn-like warehouse adjacent to the showroom, where they refurbish the machines. I got the Kenmore for $200, delivered, installed, tested, with a 30-day warranty. I've had it about 6 months, and fortunately...

Identical to mine... Excellent machine! Bought mine last year from a used and refurbished dealer here in St. Pete. Only caveat is the lack of the intermittent ex-slow/slow speed I once had.

Lasting ability Jeff in Atlanta bought Duet set when first introduced, with gas dryer, and pedestals...washer a bit noisy, but both going strong, with no repairs.

Series 90 I had the Series 90 back in Atlanta, and one difference over the 80 was the speeds. The Delicate was Ex Slow/Slow, and there was a Handwash which was Ex Slow Intermittent/Slow.

Had the new generation Whirlpool Front Loader, then switched to a Whirlpool Agitator Top Loader. Now have a Series 80 Kenmore. Just like to know the mfg date.

Gearbox... I have the WTW4816, and the gearbox was replaced within the first week.

Persil P/U... I had the same issue when Persil first hit the shelves...washed beach towels, put them in the closet...2 weeks later, for the next trip to the beach, took them out, and they reeked of a barf smell...have never used the liquid Persil, or any form, since. George

WTW4816FW I have this Whirlpool top loader, and I agree, it is the only new Whirlpool I would buy...can't remember if I bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot...it's the only model I could find with a true "dual action" agitator, not an impeller with a stem...I get a true hot wash, with a full tub...

In the plastic bag... Ariel is my choice for a hot wash of cottons...no sticky residue as from a liquid...bought a Rubbermaid cereal dispenser at a yard sale, and that makes it easy to pour.

90 Series 3 speeds plus Intermittent...best washer I ever had...forced to replace with LG stack when I moved to Florida...dark day...

I have that exact machine... and no, the wash arms do not alternate...and yes, it will leave baked on residue...but it's quiet, dries well, and beats hand washing.

WFW5620 I have the model below yours...lots of oddities...most notable was the failure to comply with selected temperatures...thought it was defective and had it replaced...same situation with new machine..could never get a hot wash on "Normal"...used "Delicates" and "Quick" often, but rinsing...
