How Does One Look For a Job These Days?

As far as the Internet goes, if you are in a specific line of work, check out the sites of associations in your field. Many have job boards that post openings from employers. Sure, everyone else in your field is responding to those posts as well, but you never know.

    Pass the Ginkgo Bilboa, Please............

I finally bought an address book to put down people's addresses and phone numbers because I could see myself beginning to forget them. A sobering thought.

    Mustang car commercial

This is a cute commercial for the 1968 Ford Mustang. I remember the jingle but don't think I ever saw a commercial for it this long—maybe a promo video? Some of you may have seen it, but for those who haven't, enjoy! Any other vintage commercials you would like to share? <object width=425...

    USB turntable and audio software

I would say it's probably better to use a decent regular turntable and a good phono stage. I have a Bellari VP-129 phono stage, which is inexpensive and good, but there are lots of decent inexpensive stages out there. For transfer to the computer, I use a Behringer U-Control device, another...

High Efficiency washer Benefits and Costs

In the time I have used a FL, I have seen no appreciable reduction in my water bill. It may fluctuate, but no more than about 50 cents per quarter. I only do 3 loads per week max, so maybe it's not enough to make a difference. I bought an inexpensive machine, so I don't worry about recouping the...

    Is anyone else nervous?

After what we have had for the past 8 years, I think it will be good to see what somebody else can do. I interpret your question as the often-characterized perception of democrats as favoring more government intervention overall, but there's a broad spectrum of philosophies there, as everywhere...

Carcinogens in bottled water -- Wal-Mart strikes again

I use a Pur pitcher. The filter has to be changed periodically, but I guess it's less wasteful and maybe a bit less expensive than bottled water. The water tastes pretty good.

A little late to the party, but oh well, here you go.

    Gays are "abnormal" and "delusional"

To me, "normal" and "abnormal" have no meaning when used to describe people. They are definitions formed by learned, invented, or imposed standards that have no basis for logical comparison. A person's body temperature may be normal, but the person itself can never be.

How About Some Vintage TV Pitchmen/women?

I don't remember that, but I do remember Dena Dietrich for Blue Bonnet saying "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!" That was late 1960s, I think.

How About Some Vintage TV Pitchmen/women?

Can't forget Madge for Palmolive dishwashing liquid. I also remember Joe DiMaggio doing Mr. Coffee commercials and Ricardo Montalban pitching the Chrysler Cordoba. And of course there was Clara (Where's the beef?) Peller. (I guess by now that could squeak into the vintage category.)

    Is Sears discontinuing its detergents?

Has anyone heard anything about Sears discontinuing its detergents? I saw something about this on another site and began snooping around. The Sears website no longer has a Detergents and Cleansers link on its Washers and Dryers page. A search on the word detergents brought up a shorter list of...

    Vintage Television Comedies One Misses

I liked The Mary Tyler Moore Show, especially the first season. That Girl was good too and was probably a prototype for MTM.

    Another Local Appliance Store Gone

I was taking a walk down the main street of my town today and was shocked to find that the local appliance store was dark and empty. A quick search confirmed that the store went out of business. The information I found wasn’t very explanatory other than having a quote from the store president...

what was the #1 song the day you were born?

"Kansas City" by Wilbert Harrison. May 13, 1959. Never heard of it.

    Dont leave candles burning

Unplugging I never thought about unplugging appliances until I had a mishap some years ago while living in an apartment. I had some clean dishes in a dish rack on the kitchen counter. Next to the dish rack was a toaster oven. One day I went off to work as usual. During the day, a bowl rolled...

    Hide or not to hide?

OK, Thomas, here's fat me at 49. You other guys who put pics up are very handsome, I must say. Thomas, I would like to ask you to fill in the blank, but I know you don't want to do it. That's OK. Everyone has his mystery. But don't worry about your age. Just don't worry about it! Just do what...

    Hide or not to hide?

I’m 49 and feel pretty much the same as I always have. Sure, I have a bit of white in my hair now and am a bit thicker in the middle than I would like to be, but I don’t worry about it too much. I’m still the same person, for better or worse, and don’t really feel old. However, I am mindful of...
