You guys are a bad influence

It looks good! I've been thinking about getting one of those doors, hopefully from a donor dryer that otherwise isn't worth saving. It should fit on a dryer that matches our Kitchenaid washer. I've been looking for a matching dryer located not too far away, but so far haven't come across one.

    Replacing the dryer vent

I'm going to give the Heartland vent a try. It will be in an easy to access spot for cleaning, and it is under the eaves of the roof, so it should mostly be in the shade and not get much direct sun. The hardest part will be chipping some of the stucco to get a flat mounting surface, but I'm...

    Newspaper Article and 1949 Packard

Articles like this might encourage others to re-use things that aren't worn out, which is the ultimate green technology.

    Replacing the dryer vent

I noticed with the recent cold weather that dry laundry left in the dryer seemed to be quite cold after awhile. The old, original dryer vent that came with the house is probably leaking some cold air into the basement. Has anyone else used this style of dryer vent (below)? I'd installed one on...

    Dishwasher pacs

A vote here for Cascade Complete pacs. I tested these on a load of dishes including cereal bowls with microwave-baked-on oatmeal, and they came clean. We have moderately hard water. I'm still using up my stash of vintage Cascade with phosphates, but once that is completely gone, I'll switch to...

vintage Jenn Air cook top for mom!!!

Just be sure to educate her about the glass jar underneath, if she uses the grill or rotisserie setup. I didn't read the instruction manual on ours, so I found out about it the hard way.

Costco Kirkland HE Powdered Laundry Detergent

I used the previous version of this. At least, the box looked different and it didn't say anything about color-safe bleach, that I remember. It did a good job of cleaning in the top-loader. It seemed a bit sudsy in the front-loader, though. When I was using it in the top-loader, I believe I...

It sounds like it was an easy fix, congratulations!

vintage Jenn Air cook top for mom!!!

I've always liked the concept that you could switch out the elements for something different. It will be nice to have the big storage space underneath.

19 78 Gold Lady Kenmore Pair and Kitchenaid Dishwasher

That Lady Kenmore set is rare. It must have been a short-lived design.

P&G stealthily increasing price of "Old" Tide

Kirkland's powder at Costco was well-rated by Consumer Reports, and is inexpensive. I liked it in the top loader, but found it to be a bit too sudsy in the front loader. Kirkland's pods were also well-rated, and I'm going to purchase a tub of those next time I'm at Costco to give them a whirl...

Cleaning melted plastic off a smoothtop range

Does anyone else use Cerama-Bryte on their smoothtop cooktops? It was recommended by Consumer Reports, and I purchased a starter kit including the cleaner liquid and scrubbing sponges, to give it a try. I also have Bar Keepers Friend, but I've always been nervous about using it on the cooktop...

Finally, I'm in blender heaven! (Or close to it...)

I found with our Osterizer (not as old as yours) that it helps to periodically spray some penetrating lubricant into the bearings underneath the blade, where it meets with the base. That area seems to occasionally get a bit rusty on ours. (Especially if I washed it in the dishwasher, which I no...

    Advice on a new disposer

The link to the EverGrind disposals at Menards has changed, so I'm including the new link below. If you decide to go with an ISE model, I think it makes sense to figure out which model you want, based on HP and features, and then shop around at various places like Lowes and Home Depot to see...

    Advice on a new disposer

EverGrind by InSinkErator I went through this last summer, and have posted a link to my original thread below. ISE makes probably the majority of garbage disposals, under many different brand names so that retailers don't have to do price-matching. The one that we got at Menards was a match...

VINTAGE 1960'S DWYER FULL KITCHEN PORCELAIN NEAR MINT - $2000 (north phoenix)

I could see something like this in a mother-in-law suite, assuming of course that your MIL wouldn't be insulted at having to use something this old.

How Do You Save a Picture From Google Street View?

Tear-downs are a problem here, too. Though usually it is limited to the most desirable areas, which usually means a) close-in, high-income suburb, with b) its own school system. Rambling ranches with large lots are the most popular targets, as a developer can cram three multi-story houses into...

Upgraded Membership no ads option = Pointless?

I think the primary reason most people pay for an upgraded membership is to support the site. Access to the additional forums and lack of ads are a nice perk, and there are some additional features that are also useful.

A Front Loader That Can Actually Balance a Heavy Load?

I've not noticed any unwilling-to-spin issues with either of our Kenmore-by-Frigidaire-by-Electrolux front-loaders. Of course, they are smaller capacity than newer machines; I believe they only hold 2.7 cubic feet. I am able to wash a queen-sized comforter in it, as well as throw rugs...
