when I used to be a dispatcher for ADT, the number one reason for that happening was that the detector needed vacuuming. Smoke detectors sense the particles in the air, so dust build up can easily set them off. Much worse if there's been drywall dust or sawdust etc. in the vicinity.

Love it - I'm another painter and I do exactly the same thing. That's how I've ended up with some very cool stuff though - I told one woman how much I liked the "old washer" in the basement and she said "Really??? You can have it if you like...." Back up the truck and away we go.....

That was my partner, Francisco, that was denied entry last May, and had to say goodbye to his teaching job in Vermont. He was interviewed a few weeks ago on CBC radio's "The Current" regarding the whole ordeal. Life has a way of working things out though...he's got a better gig now in Toronto...
