Are modern refrigerators really worth the upgrade?

Corporations want to gain control of society, like a bunch of puppets. They've already done that with smart phones, among other things. All cloaked in the name of "convenience". And honestly, look at how society is today. The brainwashing, the manipulation, and all the other things that go with...

Are modern refrigerators really worth the upgrade?

Good for you, Tim! I'm a "Dont Follow The Crowd" type, just because others have been conditioned through advertizing to "upgrade" when it's not needed.

    Kirkland laundry detergent

For years, I've been using Windfresh powdered laundry detergent, available at Sam's Club and Amazon, among other sellers. A nice big 35 pound bucket with a scoop, for about $40, giving 215 loads. Same bucket as that Kirkland brand. Always does a nice cleaning of my garments, and helps to prevent...

Are modern refrigerators really worth the upgrade?

Those worthless technology gadgets are fluff and troublesome BS, indeed. My 1985 GE, a plain old fridge without that BS, is still running fine. People who are "bought into" the "upgrade" never-ending cycle of life need to wake up and smell the corporate greed behind having to outlay rediculous...

    KitchenAid dishwasher not cleaning well

Good chance the supply hose from the pump to the upper spray arm is clogged. Pour a cup of CLR in the machine and run it through a cycle.

    Still Dead Microwave

I'm tellin' you that it is a problem with the electronics and/or the keypad. And the keypad membrane itself is not replaceable or stocked for something that old. I've had those old microwaves in the shop years ago, to know what I'm talking about. This thread can continue into next year with...

    Still Dead Microwave

Nice to know! So am I! I've got a couple of nice portable Panasonic radios from the 60's and 70s' For a tease, here's my immaculate 1980 Panasonic "Platinum Series" boombox. Originally sold for about $450 in 1980, and they're now selling for $1000.00 The thing weighs a ton for a "portable" It's...

    Whirlpool Washer Rant!

I once had a hell of a time removing the cap on my Kenmore portable washer. I had to replace the agitator dogs under it.

    Bosch WAE series washing machines

My next door neighbor has a Bosch stackable pair since 2010. And it's had numerous problems such as the washer having a leaking door gasket/seal, and pump isses due to coins getting caught in the impeller. Those, and other issues point to design flaws, and the neighbor is not satisfied with it's...

I don't think that I like that type of design.

    GE washers...

The FTC has set down strict laws governing the labeling of products. Two major definitions are... "Made In The USA" - must have all substantial parts manufactured and sourced locally. and... "Assembled In The USA" - The “assembly” that takes place in the U.S. must involve a substantial...

    GE washers...

At Face Value, that seems good. However, the bottom line is about quality, and where the parts are being made. If an American-built GE but with Korean guts, I'd be suspicious. Hopefully not the case.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

Sylvania, among other brands, made some nice stereo systems back in the day. They were built with quality in mind, attractive styling, and attractive features. The Garrard record changers were a good choice, and some models even sported the expensive Dual turntables. I've serviced and heard the...

i wonder how this direct drive whirlpool would look like with a warm rinse true water level wash and rinse and non atc temp

The only thing that I don't care for in that rear view is..... The external wiring harness and external overflow switch. If according to current electrical codes, all electrical wiring must be internal.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

Yes, see?...... lack of Common Sense in GE's design department. I also never liked those rear splash panel range designs, requiring you to reach over hot pots to adjust burner settings. The potential to reach over steaming pots to turn down the flame/temp, and you get a nice armfull of burns...

    Help choosing a vintage Maytag

The previous owners of my home purchased the A482 washer and matching DG482 dryer in 1987. They had 3 children, so I'm guessing those appliances got typical use. Since I became the new homeowner 20 years ago, those machines are still performing like they should.

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

I have the original Owner's Manual, the Use And Care and Installation manuals. But I haven't read through them, so if it's in there, fine.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

To me, that's a Dumb Design for a cooktop. Why? Because of the closeness of those pushbuttons to the burners. A spill from a pot or pan.... and those buttons are now contaminated.

    Help choosing a vintage Maytag

I totally agree with you there, Dan! And not only are major appliances affected, but the home entertainment crowd has been increasingly interested in vintage hifi equipment of the past. I saw this when I worked at the shop. besides doing repairs, we also had a large display in the lobby area...
