I'm going to ride 500 miles to fight HIV/AIDS... and I need your help!

Toggles, Thank you so much! I was raised Catholic, and St. Athanasius was my Confirmation saint. I liked it that he was excommunicated five times but was vindicated.

I'm going to ride 500 miles to fight HIV/AIDS... and I need your help!

Hey Automaticwasher people, I'm going out on a major limb here. I am a sedentary bearcub, and I'm about to do the action adventure of a lifetime. I will be riding in AIDS/LifeCycle 9. This June I will be bicycling 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It will take me seven days, and to do...

    "Frigidaire" as a common noun

If you look at the Wanted poster of Bonnie and Clyde, it refers to snapshots as "Kodaks." I've heard of older people referring to any refrigerator as a "Frigidaire." I always thought it was because Frigidaire was one of the first (if not the first) to aggressively market their machines on a...

    Vacuum Windshield Wiper Motor Troubleshooting

The die cast housings are known to wear out from use and or warp with age. Perhaps a rebuild from one of the professional guys is in order?

    Early Frigidaire Stove

Nifty! If anyone here buys it, I can probably find the service literature if its pre-1942.

    Old Coldspots

I don't know of that off hand. Is it a refrigerator with a refrigeration unit on top? On the bottom? Or is it an icebox?

My grandfather was there and survived the war. And Korea. He died before I could get his stories though.

    "The Changeling" with Ms. Jolie

Historical accuracy Now I've only seen bits and pieces of the film, but I know they used 1934 refrigerators and 1930s cars for scenes supposed to take place in 1928. Yes I'm an automobile accuracy "nazi". And my Dad's model T is in one scene if you don't blink.

    "The Changeling" with Ms. Jolie

Its a positively horrific true story. The town of Mira Loma, CA changed its name over the bad publicity surrounding Gordon Northcutt. Here's a link to a photo of Christine Collins. Definately not Angelina Jolie. http://jpg3.lapl.org/pics15/00027465.jpg

It's 1970 and Columbia Records is beginning to feel the pressure

I remember hearing once that shellac came from islands in the South Pacific and that the supply was cut off during the War. To buy a new record, you had to bring an old one in for exchange.

Honestly, give it 10 years... My dear young Sir, you're only 16 if your profile is accurate. If you can wait, I would. Your perspectives will change greatly in the next 10 years (and beyond) and the religion you currently embrace may not be the religion you stay with for the rest of your life...

Spotted during a call: something for the refrigerator guys...

They used that cabinet style from about 1939 to at least 1946. Nice to see one so crisp and original!

Odd uses for your dishwasher; things we all know we shouldn't, ...

One of my high school teachers told us that he wore only knit neckties because he said he could wash them in the dishwasher. I haven't tried that one.
