Todays find: very early Smith Corona electric typewriter

I met one old timer who lubricated my LC Smith desktop machine for me. He swore by automatic transmission fluid. I also had great luck using Aero-Kroil in an Underwood. What do you recommend Ron?

If I wanted to reproduce parts of old appliance shop manuals, where would I start to research copyright permission and fair use? Thanks, Chris

excellent NY-Times OP-Ed on Gay Marriage

I don't think the problem was heliocentrism vs geocentrism as much as it was Galileo's ego vs the Jesuits' ego.

    1919 & 1922 Laundry Pics

The first picture looks a lot older than 1919. Look at the womens' bodices. They're clearly corseted, and with the little shoulder puffs on their sleeves, I'd guess pre-1905 at the newest.

    Vintage Hotpoint Refrigerator HELP

Those containers... I would guess they're for whatever tiny bits of leftovers that a "Good Homemaker" would save for later. And when no one wanted that half-portion of day old spam, you could hide it in some sort of Jello salad. Nice Hotpoint!

    GE Mon Top find

1933 model CA-2-A. The CK which came out in 1934 was more reliable but the CAs work fine too.

    Vintage mini 'fridge

Well how many million Servel fridges were made using ammonia? I think you're safe as long as you don't puncture a refrigerant line.

How do you wash a baseball cap?

One of my favorites has got noticeable sweat stains on the brim. White sweat salt on brown fabric doesn't look good, so how do I wash it? Thanks!

    Now Lets just be honest

The 1900 House. It was pretty good, the family was pretty resiliant to living up to the challenge. There was quite a learning curve--the kitchen range was improperly installed so they had no hot water for a week, no one told the wife how to thread a vibrating shuttle sewing machine, and they...

    FYI

I didn't see anyone else post it so I thought I ought to... The anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack was yesterday. My grandfather was on the Tennessee when it happened. He lived but didn't like to talk about the war.

    Anita O'Day

Does it sound like a good singer who's seen better days or a singer who was bad from the start?

    Now Lets just be honest

Its not a real 1919 photograph. No woman unless over 50 would have worn a bonnet that late (they were getting passe by 1900) and the dresses look much too Victorian for a postwar period. As for the charms of those ladies, I think I'd just put myself in a monastery instead.

Interesting take on Prop. 8 --Why churches fear gay marriage

Which is why my family does not contribute to the regular collection, yet I'll contribute to whatever the second collection is. Then again he goes to Holy Redeemer. Its well known for being a parish that makes progressive parishes look tame.
