Something I read on the internet that's disgusting

But are we sure this is real? Articles like this about "do not wash you jeans" appear and re-appear periodically over the net (I have also found them badly translated from English to other languages) but they seem to me to typical "click bait". The history of jeans (or any other piece of...

    My Cylinda FTL56

What matters with synthetic fibers is more about drum rhythm Although it is true that typically the wash rhythm is gentler for the "synthetic" cycle than for the "cotton" cycle, I am not sure this is what matters the most. The main characteristic of "synthetic" cycles is to prevent sudden...

FWIW: How tumble drying clothes can be harmful to health

Microplastics Not sure what you mean by "scientific studies that say these (mostly polyester) microfibers are harmful to human health". As far as I know, you are correct that the effects of microplastics on human health are still being investigated, but the damage microplastics do to the...

The weirdest stain I ever had to tackle - ABS plastic

Benzene substitute It is true that benzene is not available any more to private consumer, but xylene is, and it is quite "similar"

    1972 Kenmore Set

A question If I read correctly the label of the washer, it says "120 V / 9.8 A" which gives about 1 kW: isn't it a bit too much for a washer (which I suppose does not have a heater)? The power should be just that of the motor, and 1 kW motor seems a bit too much. What am I missing?

    White film....

But isn't it dangerous? If you use a detergent containing bleach (as far as I know, such detergents exist in the USA, although I believe they do not exist in Europe) and mix it with citric acid, you are actually producing chlorine, which is toxic

PLEASE READ THIS, My Appologies Everyone!

No need to apologise indeed I completely agree with the other members, Robert: you must not apologise. Regardless the reason and the fact that it was not your fault at all, problems happen, but I thank you very much for all your hard work to keep this site running smoothly. Believe me...

    Removing blood stains?

Enzymes I have had good results using enzyme-based stain removers for blood stains: just apply and watch the stain disappear. I used the Ecover version (which contains a single enzyme: subtilisin) but there are many others that I am sure would work...

Method Laundry Booster with TAED (US)

You suppose right, Launderess... ...or at least that's exactly what I do: I buy sodium percarbonate in bulk and I add it to liquid detergent when washing whites

Help needed: J-B Weld for an oven

@reactor You are right, but the fan is very, very, very loosely fixed on its shaft, and nevertheless it runs smoothly, so the perfect balance should not be an issue. I assume that it is because the fan is very lightweight and the speed is not very high

Help needed: J-B Weld for an oven

My crappy Siemens ventilated oven has a problem: the oven fan “rattles” because is it not fixed to its axle. For what I have seen, there is not a strong or fixed bond between the fan and the axle (crappy design…) it seems that the fan is not held by the bolt (I hope this explanation is...

Bosch vs AEG - Which one would you choose?

AEG/Electrolux made in... Sorry, aeg03, but at least the TOL models of AEG and Electrolux washing machines and dishwashers are actually made in Italy, unless they made them in Italy for me only...

Bosch vs AEG - Which one would you choose?

Electrolux brands Electrolux periodically change their brand strategy. At the moment the Electrolux brand is promoted on the Northern-European countries and in Italy and France (I am surely missing some) while instead here in Germany only the AEG brand is used

Bosch vs AEG - Which one would you choose?

I am partial... ...but I would always choose AEG/Electrolux over BSH. For twenty years all my appliances have been AEG/Electrolux, and I have never had any really bad experience. Functions are good for my needs, and build quality is not bad either. I think you should also consider how good...
