    Vintage Tide "Ultra" Powder

Tide really is hard to beat, in cleaning and freshness. It’s no wonder so many people come back to it after using other brands. My mother was a sworn user, plus Oxydol. Her wash was the cleanest I ever saw. The original fragrance was a bit sweet smelling for my taste, but far better than current...

Why do all newer transmission made Speed Queens low speed spin drain after main wash?

I own the 432 also. To get better performance on large loads or high sudsing detergents, esp on towels and jeans, I hit the reset fill knob to manually fill up the tub to above the top row of the holes in the tub. (I have learned the hard way, washing a very full load without that extra water I...

Why do all newer transmission made Speed Queens low speed spin drain after main wash?

I heard it spins slower so as not to set wrinkles in on Permanent Press fabrics. Frustrating on a load of towels or jeans. At least there’s a short spin rinse that helps. Barry

    Opinions: most irritating-sounding washer ever?

For me it would be the direct drive dual action agitator, chunk, chunk, chunk, chunk...It cranks my nerves. Give me smooth old school belt drive one piece agitator any day. Barry

The science of line drying items outdoors

Our Grandparents already knew this. I do like my bath towels soft and clean smelling though. Kitchen towels I’ll hang out and sun bleach, it makes a big difference. Makes a big difference on my utility bill also. Barry

Here we go again, the mantra of washing laundry in cold water

I, too, have been washing more dishes by hand. I like to get done and not wait on the 2 hour dishwasher, then have to go back and unload. I still use the dishwasher when Im baking or cooking a lot but since I live alone, I have to save up enough dishes for a full load and that takes nearly a...

    Video About Tide

That was interesting, but long. A few thoughts came to my mind, nothing in particular order: • They mentioned the need to reduce plastic consumption, but to me they seem to use plenty with their Tide Cleaners wrapping the clothes orange colored wraps. • The Loads of Hope is very worthy and...

    My New E2L!

Congratulations! It’s beautiful!!! I didn’t know a Maytag made appliances in that color, for wringers. They are good washers and brings back many memories. As for water, use as much as you want, or need to get the desired results. Does this have the lint filter agitator? Could you take an...

    A letter from Norge

The Norge was a very good washer. Loud, but good. We had a 1969 wards, it cleaned anything thrown at it. As good as it was, it only lasted about 8 years or so. Huge capacity. Barry

    Need A New Refrigerator

Thank you!! I feel a little better knowing what is causing the noise. Yes, it’s a top freezer model. Think I’m going to try and get someone out here to repair, even though it’s older. Think it was bought 2000 or so. It’s been an excellent fridge. Barry

    Need A New Refrigerator

Woke up in the middle of the night to a loud refrigerator! Needing a brand recommendation for a new one. Are there any brands to stay away from? Would like something that has good reliability. Current one is over 20 years old, can’t complain as it’s given good service, it was a GE. Any input...

The Origins of the Speed Queen Classic Top Loader

Would be interesting to find out that info. I had read somewhere a while back that they had approached Whirlpool concerning the surgulator agitator design. They were able to secure a near copy of it for their washers. Around that time I learned that Whirlpool loaned them money when they were in...

    Spray Rinse vs Deep Rinse

This is a good discussion. I totally agree with much of the viewpoints. The flume and direction of the water hitting the clothes would, in my mind, be essential. The WP/KM belt drives of yesteryear was the absolute best for spray rinsing, better than a waterfall type. That old system was evenly...

    Local Sears Hometown store closing.

Does anyone know why WalMart never got into the appliance sales in a big way? Sometimes I would see a very select handful for sale at Sam’s Club but hardly any selection. I remember seeing back in the 80’s-90’s White-Westinghouse washers dryers. I would have thought they would have done well...

GE filter-flo favorite speed and sounds

Always liked the sound of the FilterFlo water going into the pan and the hum of the agitation. My Mom had one, best washer we ever owned, as did my favorite aunt. Barry
