    Fan motor question

Well... Let's be sensible here...... Most fan motors only pull a few watts! Whether or not they're cooled is really pretty inconsequential. The mass of the iron in the field windings and the turbulence created by the laminations in the rotor will usually cool the motor sufficiently to allow it...

    Central AC coil/fin cleaning

Or just do it like the pros do... Take the condenser fan off so the coils are exposed from the inside. Pick up any crap that's in the bottom and discard it. If it's one of the tall skinny units, use a shop vac to suck out the garbage. Spray down the coils from the inside with soap or floor...

    My very first Topllader!

I'm surprised nobody's replied to this thread! Speed Queens usually attract a lot of attention....especially when they're in a foreign country! I know absolutely nothing about Speed Queens except that I really hated the 80's models we had in the laundromat in my college dorm. They were horribly...

Are electric meters ever wrong? Or why am I using so much electricity.

Electric Meters The electric meters in this country rarely go wrong. Usually when they do, they either UNDERCHARGE you or they stop altogether! Something in your house is drawing that much power. Have you checked your refrigerator? If it's got dirty coils, you'd be SHOCKED how much power that...

    Weird Summer Weather

God.... Send some of that nice weather this way QUICK!!!! We're having one of the hottest summers on record since 2000. I am TIRED of seeing triple digit temps in the afternoon. Roasting in my car on the way home from work is NOT something I enjoy doing!

    Had to let everyone go

Texas Heat... It's been HELL around here as well. I live just north west of San Antonio and it's been awful. Usually the 100 degree days don't show up until mid August, then quickly go away! It's been topping 100 for the past TWO WEEKS here and I'm sick of it! We have a computer out in our un...

    1980s GE dryer squeaking

It had oil at one point, but it's since dried out. See the link below for an explanation of how they work, how to service/refurb them, etc. The video is for a motor bearing, but the dryer bearings are the same thing.

    1980s GE dryer squeaking

Detergent-free oil only. Go to your hardware store and get some 3-in-1 designed for electric motors. Comes in a blue bottle. Costs less than $5. It's your best friend. Grease the bearing and you can kiss it goodbye.

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

Bertrum... The longest cycle on these machines takes just over 45 minutes. The water level really *IS* too low to achieve decent washability, even with a modern HE detergent. There's no heater, and here in the US we don't have the enzyme cleaners that other countries use. By raising the water...

GE Filter-Flo Straight 8-Vane vs High 4-Vane Activators

I'll stick with my Rampie..... Higher middle vanes aside, I don't think they'd add too terribly much to the efficiency of the agitator. Compared to the ramped? Forget it! I made a video comparing the polypropylene ramped agitator to the straight-6 with the shorter middle vanes. Behold it's...

    What happened in this dryer????

2x @ 70 minutes I've had 2 Whirlpool/Kenmore dryers and they both took an eternity to dry a load. I grew up with Maytag dryers, so I was spoiled by a 45 minute dry cycle. Both of the dryers I've had were vented directly outside through a short 5" duct. Straight shot and clear venting. It was...

GE Filter-Flo Straight 8-Vane vs High 4-Vane Activators

I still think the Power-Fin works better in the smaller capacity machines than it does in the later deep-tub machines. I don't have a very good machine to compare the Power-Fin to the GE with since I have an old 1960 Highlander with a worn brake package. That said, if I do an 8 minute wash, it...

GE Filter-Flo Straight 8-Vane vs High 4-Vane Activators

I know I'm gonna get it.... But... It throws the Maytag Power-Fin in the dirt and laughs hysterically at it. It's relatively easy to overload the Power-Fin, and it doesn't seem to like big bulky items like sheets or bedspreads. The ramped activator handles pretty much anything I've ever...

    Maytag A206 won't agitate...

Checked the Motor Wiring? I had this exact problem with the Highlander this morning! I had taken the motor out to replace the springs on the glide mount and when I got it back together, it would fill fine, spin and drain fine, but if it tried to agitate it would blow the breaker in the fuse...

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

If you start a heavy or "Normal" cycle on mine it tumbles during fill with the timer running. I haven't modified mine, it came that way from the factory.

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

The end result... The end result is a wash level that's much more satisfactory. The original wash level was only about 1/2 way up the tub baffle. After the adjustment the water is about 1/2" over the top of the baffle. It just touches the top edge of the wash basket below the boot. I figure...

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

How to Adjust... It's kind of a 2-part process to adjust the switch on this machine. There are 2 screws and they act as a team to adjust the level. Turning just one screw does absolutely nothing. The screw on the left adjusts the diaphram spring tension and the screw on the far right adjusts...

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

The pressure switch location After you get the top off, the pressure switch is mounted to a cross brace in the top of the cabinet. You can see it hanging here directly in back of the timer dial.

How to adjust water level on Frigidaire Gallery Front Loaders

I was bored today and had a lot of time on my hands, so I decided to see if I could make a man out of my Frigidaire front loader. I've seen it done with the Duets, but every time I've seen this model mentioned, it's always been said, "I don't know how" or "It can't be done". Well good news! It...
