That, or Heywood Wakefield rattan, which my Aunt Doris had several pieces of.

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

I never lived in a house with a coal furnace, but a few of my neighbors did. They all had coal bins in their basements, with a small metal door that opened out to the driveway. The delivery truck would place its chute into the opening and fill the bin. By the time I remember, the furnaces were...

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

This company merged with Eureka in the mid 1940s to become the Eureka-Williams Co. I remember my mom's old vacuum cleaner from the early 1950s having that on the info plate underneath. The instruction book also mentioned the Oil-O-Matic heat.

Best laundry detergent and/or additive for food and oil stains?

You might want to try Grease Relief, which I have used, or perhaps Permatex Fast Orange Grease-X detergent, though I've not tried it. It's made for Mechanic's clothes, so would probably work well.

    Crown 450 Canister Vacuum

I've never seen one like that before. The attachments look like the ones from the Royal 1940s hot-dog style vacuum that the lady that was our sitter when my sister and I were kids had as her upstairs machine.

    Crown 450 Canister Vacuum

Our family friend Glenna C. owned a Constellation when I was a little kid, and I always wanted to see it. I thought it looked like the planet Saturn. Hers was blue and gray. I have a miniature Constellation that is a tape measure, it's tan and about 1.5" tall. Just got it last Summer at our...

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

I live about 25 minutes NE of downtown Milford, and about 35-40 minutes from Blue Ash. Downtown Cincinnati takes about 50 minutes, going on Columbia Parkway.

Questions about the G.E. Mark 27

I'm not convinced that the wire shown is actually aluminum - it may or may not be. Based on the apparent age of the cable, it's very possible that the conductors are tinned copper. This was common in the 1950s and earlier when rubber was used as wire insulation (to prevent corrosion). The...

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

It's more in the Milford -Loveland area. The large window and front door position are the main things that are alike. The chimney is on the left side, and only one lower window on right front, though I think that may have been changed at some time. It's not in a subdivision, but along the highway.

    Modern Living: Part Eighteen

There's a house about 15 minutes from here that looks a great deal like the one shown. I know nothing about it, other than it's been there as long as I can remember, which means prior to the late 1950s.

    Vintage Jenn-Air Range

My former neighbors Ann and Russell built their new house in 1985, and equipped the kitchen with Jenn-Air ovens and cooktop, and a SubZero refrigerator. Their previous residence kitchen was installed in 1964, with GE wall ovens, cooktop, and bottom freezer refrigerator. I remember Ann saying...

    Chevy Nova, 1968-'79

Sometime in the early to mid 1980s I had a Nova 4-door, in Medium Green Metallic. I don't remember if it was a 1977 or 78, nor why I got rid of it.

    WHAT would YOU do?

Having worked in market research many years ago, I know how those things are conducted. The client sets parameters of who they want interviewed, such as age, sex, income, location, etc. One of the problems I noticed back at that time (early 1980s), was that most of the participants were suburban...

    WHAT would YOU do?

Vacerator (sorry, don't know your name) I don't know what age you are, but you may be around for a good while longer. In my block, I have four neighbors over the age of 90 - three women and one man -, and two of those are over 95. They all still reside in their own homes. One of my good friends...

    1964 RCA-WP Commercial Spots - 16mm Film

In 1962, Whirlpool closed the range factory in Hamilton, OH. They had purchased it from RCA in 1955, which included the right to use the RCA trademark for a certain number of years. They did not open their own plant to manufacture ranges for several more years, so in 1964 they would have been...

    Any Servel survivors ?

Servel was bought by Whirlpool in 1958, partially to get their automatic ice maker. They continued making gas refrigerators for several years after. The kitchen on the "Beverly Hillbillies" featured all gas appliances, including Whirlpool refrigerators, as American Gas Association was a sponsor...

    NOS Brown GE range

Well before that there were vent hoods with lights. Even in the 1950s there were plenty of ranges without the backsplash light. I've been in older houses that had a wall bracket light above the range, usually matching one above the sink.

1989 White Westinghouse front load washer

We got a Westinghouse front load machine in 1964. It didn't take long for it to begin rusting below the door, and by the time it was replaced in 1973, there was a small hole where it had rusted through. The door itself was also rusted on the lower edge. The 1955 slant-front machine which it...

    No commercial version...

I'm nearly certain I've seen commercial versions of the Frigidaire 1-18 series.
