Ben, You're right about the fridge.  It was manual defrost.  I remember helping my Mama defrost that freezer before taking that task on myself.  Mama bought the new fridge right before we moved on June 08, 1963.

That's the same fridge I grew up with only ours was white.  I wondered when I would see one like this again!
