Textured doors Is that about the time the textured doors came in? Our 86 GE has plain doors, but our early 90s Norge has textured doors.

The Fat Lady Has Sung - Goodbye Maytag

Ah ok I see now, thanks for the info. I've seen an older style Frigidaire washer run. Aside from the quality problems, that washer is quieter than direct drive Whirlpools.

    Wards Coppertone Refrigerator

"Believe Wards refrigerators of that vintage would be Frigidaire built. Not sure what was energy saving about them but by todays standards they would not be very efficient." Most definitely. If I was to hazard a guess, 1700-2000 kwhrs per year. Compared with about 700-800 kwrs for a comparable...

The Fat Lady Has Sung - Goodbye Maytag

"Actually whatever turns out is going to be interesting. But whatever happens even if it's not positive will still never compare to the disaster when wci bought Frigidaire from General Motors! That will always be the worst appliance disaster ever made. Peter" So true. Besides, the REAL Maytag...

    Crosley

Thanks i'll drop him an email. I always thought those old compressors should be loud, but they really aren't at all. Then with no fans, there's no other noise. Very nice.

    Crosley

It's been awhile since I was here. But we have a, what I think would be an early 50s Crosley Shelvador fridge at work. All the pictures i've seen of them from that time look like this one. Very round corners and sides, button handle. Anyhow, it hadn't been defrosted in about 7 or 8 years. Of...

Maytags How expensive were they ??

It's interesting that they sold as well as they did. They really were good washers though.

    Classicappliances?

I've mostly been busy with school and work. I haven't been on any of my forums much lately. Every couple days I sit down and check them and post etc. Had quite a "long" winter, but that's a very long story. Otherwise, everything's good.

    Classicappliances?

You can delete this after I find out if you want. But what happened to the classicappliances URL? I had no idea this site changed!

Natural draft That is of course true. In fact, perhaps 5% of problems with fridges even today involve the sealed system. Most are the defrost, fans, cold control and of course if you have an ice maker, those are probably over 50% of "fridge" problems.

    Maytag Washer Question~>

Not possible, as mentioned, totally different machines.

    Norge-O-Matic

"I, in good faith and being a self-employed technician, could only sell Whirlpool products. Maytag products today are not what they used to be. The name still commands a premium price, but I have always felt that Whirlpool products were every bit as good and as well built. If you are not selling...

    Fridge designs

"Most fridges and freezers here have the condensor mounted all the way round the fridge cabinet, the outside of the fridge gets quite hot. Is that how its done in the US or is the condensor still underneath or at the back? With the condensor built into the whole cabinet, you can place most...

Freezer Besides the Norge and GE, we have a Woods deep freezer. All the meat and other stuff that doesn't go in the Norge goes in the Woods chest freezer. I think it's a 1983 model or so.

Jon, you are right. Although all the other USA fridges shown are "average". Our top freezer Norge I was talking about is about the biggest top freezer model you could get back then. I think it's 23 cubic feet or so. Taller than me, not sure how wide, about 30 inches wide I think. Our older GE is...

^^^^nice Whirlpool. It even has the "crinkled" appearence, didn't know it's been around that long. The door handles look almost identical to our GE's (basement, extra fridge). As for the Norge, as I said it's a Maytag with the Matsushita compressor. From what I hear that's a good thing! It is...

Neat opinions. For the condenser argument, I find that it is a toss up. With the ones underneath with a fan, you can jam the fridge into an enclosure and not worry about heat buildup problems. As mentioned with the back condenser, it tends to stay clean and works fine as a passively cooled...

    Fridge designs

Lately i've been fascinated by the different fridge designs out there. Here's is something that doesn't get asked much, what's your favorite fridge design? Personally I like Maytag's the best. Their unique condenser, IMO, is the best design out there. Plus, the defrost water drains down the back...

    Norge-O-Matic

He is right, unless it is a LAT model, then it is a Norge design. Nothing in the washer is Maytag designed (not the transmission, pump or suspension). The brakes are known to go bad on those washers (they are a dry brake, unlike Maytag's greased brake system). It used to be, all Performas and...

    GE monitor tops

That's so cool, not many fridges these days put the working parts on top for all to see. Just can't imagine life without a fridge.
