In need of advice for upcoming renovation febuary or march 2026 including moving washer dryer from second floor to basement

If you want my honest unfiltered opinion I would keep the washer and dryer upstairs since 1) plumbing and electrical is already there 2) It is more convenient to have laundry upstairs than to lug it down two flights of stairs into a potentially cold basement with critters about.

    Time For a New Furnace

Much indeed, and what might seem tangential or off topic to some is actually interconnected with the subject matter. Just as mentioning time and mass after space was brought up 200 years ago at a university might seem widely extraneous when today we know mass, time and space all have a profound...

    Time For a New Furnace

Not everything is a conspiracy. Honest mistakes and ignorance are enough. Class J isn't perfect to obsessed with dancing around equilibrium even though it is born out of good intentions. But being honest I like class J. You can take the final numbers and multiply them by a good safety or...

    Time For a New Furnace

My heat is already oversized by about 3-4x. I said I like it that way, not that I want to increase my current 100,000 BTUs to 400,000 BTUs. The AC on the other hand is to small, need a 2x from the current.

The rust is from the evaporator coil raining down the side and interior of the furnace.

    Time For a New Furnace

I know there are members on here, including myself who are frequently accused of making off topic comments or veering a thread off course when the replies are not succinctly in parallel with the OP's question. However I myself do not see oil, gravity or hot water heat as being off topic in...

    Time For a New Furnace

Even on the hottest days? As I said, nothing indicates my duct work is undersized. Please quote what you believe what I said sounds like a conspiracy. Because as far as I'm concerned your throwing out random terms in hopes of de-railing what I said. We were fighting an ideology that forbid...

    Time For a New Furnace

And each on of those will vary from home to home. Manual J has no way of knowing how many times a front door will open, how long a bath exhaust fan will run, whats cooking for lunhc, ect. And there is the fact that a system sized to run near continuously on the hottest or coldest days has its...

Right, under ideal situations and ideal equipment. The real world varies more than generalized or idealized assumptions cemented in a book derived upon the consensus of people not involved with any given property or piece of equipment. I prefer it that way :) I will go for a different...

    New Kenmore Vacuum

I just want to thank everyone for the innumerable time and priceless advise given to me in the other thread. I read every reply in detail, took everything to heart, watched the videos posted and considered all the options given to me. It was not an easy choice by any means because each and...

A Dutch newspaper ad with a 1957 Frigidaire Unimatic in it

That is an elegant way of doing it. I stand corrected, it is very possible that EU Unimatics were not speed compensated for 50Hz power like I had originally assumed in post #4. In that case the spin and pulsation would indeed be slower at 220 volts 50Hz and normal at 240 volts 60Hz. I am...

In need of advice for upcoming renovation febuary or march 2026 including moving washer dryer from second floor to basement

IIRC Australia had 230 volt US style dryers meant to go on 10 and 15 amp circuits. Even at 16 pounds, a 5400 watt US dryer coupled with a high speed spin will always be faster than a EU dryer.

A Dutch newspaper ad with a 1957 Frigidaire Unimatic in it

My ignorance will show at this point onward. 😳 But how many poles are in a Unimatic motor and is there any type of mechanical speed reduction mechanism like gears in the Unimatic system? I've never seen or taken apart a Unimatic in person.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

And this is what really, really gets me. How I wish 90% of all washers sold in the past and today were dependable care.

    Time For a New Furnace

Thats my biggest fear. Ending up with another unit that eats parts. It is even more confusing because for each brand there are various tiers and grades. Some good, some better some terrible some best. It is so hard to figure it out and I am already exhausted from just scratching the surface...

    Time For a New Furnace

Not saying you're wrong but the way I see it is that convectors become clogged with dust over time. No smell when the heat comes on in the fall with forced air. Forced hot air isn't drafty. With an correctly sized gas furnace hot airs comes quick, and it is very hot which makes for a luxurious...

In need of advice for upcoming renovation febuary or march 2026 including moving washer dryer from second floor to basement

No dryer will dry faster and better than a 30 amp vented electric dryer or a gas vented dryer. Or is easier to diagnose, repair and service. You deserve warm, fluffy clothes that dry in under an hour from a long lasting machine that doesn't decline in performance as it ages. The US and Canada...
