Re; Samsung TVs. TVs are a different animal than other appliances. My neighbor's Viso wouldn't update and the help desk told him that he had to replace it.
It's all about forcing the consumer to BUY a new one.
Buy-buy-buy!
Build it so they HAVE to Buy New!

Keep that money flowing from YOUR pocket to THEIRS!

Something needs to be done about accountability.

Only thing that will bring about change is customers buying only simple, stout appliances at every purchase.

There was once a point where Speed Queen began to surge in sales relative to what they normally sell every year and Whirlpool and GE clapped back with a "commercial" platform.

If Speed Queen had kept growing in sales, you can bet DDs would have eventually come back.

If everyone were like me not a single machine with a lid lock, hanging suspension, or electronic control would ever be purchased. Then the big players would have a problem on their hands that they would have to resolve. What I'd give to see into these companies panicking behind the senses to bring back the direct drive, dependable care and filter flo tooling. They'll try look alikes at first I'm sure thinking its only about appearance or some perceived function, but, someone would buy one, take it appart, post it on Youtube and everyone would just laugh. Eventually it would hit the major players that the only way to stay in business would be to bring back vintage machines in a serious, carbon copy.

That's easy to say....
However, considering the Dumbing Down Of Society, the lack of education, and the distractions/addictions involved, that would take a Holy Rapture to make any changes.

Sadly, I have to agree with you.

I bet GE no longer even has the original master prints or specs of the Filter Flo on record.

What I would give for that rapture. One where GE is literally buying filter flos of Craigs list to dismantle and scan each part for the purposes of making millions of dollars worth of tooling and assmebly lines.

My sentiments exactly! The inventor must be SPINNING in his grave.

Absolutely! Tragically, the masses don't care! They think all washers are created equal, until it hits them and they find out the hard way.

They may be in the General Electric Co. archives, operated by Schenectady Public Library in New York.

I know that this "quality downslide" of mass production, and the slop of products isn't entirely new.
And I know how outsourcing has contributed towards it.
Yes, I've noticed this trend increasing over the decades, in a lot of products.
I sensed that it started really "ramping up" in the late 1980s, and since then with all the juggling around of corporate buy-ins, buy-outs, consolidation, mergers, acquisitions, and all that stuff, sadly it's the public who's paying the price for it.

When companies used to be totally self-run, owned, and managed, things were good. - sort of like a small "Mom and Pop" store, or a "Family-Owned business.
They relied on their own reputations, created their own products, and life was good.
This way of running a business was standard procedure among brand names.
It created healthy competition, and insured the consumer got the quality that they wanted, without all the Bullcrap people have to deal with today.

Something has to be done to eliminate this tragedy of commerce.
I've said my piece, for what it's worth.

I agree 100%. GE outsourced their laundry starting in 1995 and it just progressed downhill from there. All GE appliances are stupid crap. Period. They are flimsy, break down, and when they do work in perfect working order, they don't do the job properly.

We currently care about bigger more important problems. Like kids living in reclusive households because the parents are scared of life since covid, and don't have the proper skills to home school them. Also their healthcare. They have clean clothing and bedding.

I care about these things, but I also care about the appliances used to make them happen. I want them to last long and do the job right the first time.

It seems to be getting worse. I don't need a phone to control my laundry.
Oh Jerome, come on now!
Don't you want to have a nice telephone call from your laundry machines?
The washer could tell you in a nice pleasent voice the status of your wash load....

"Hello Jerome!.... you're laundry is finished now, and I managed to remove the stains in your boxer shorts successfully!"

That's what the masses want me to believe. However, no thank you. I am capable of feeling and smelling my laundry. That's how I know whether it's clean or dirty.
