Setting up house: what would y'all suggest.

In Fort Smith there should still be some older machines still around. That used to be Otasco territory and they had several cool brands of machine. Just look around at any older appliance junkyard. You might luck upon a Leonard or Philco. One never knows...

i know its longterm planing but what to chose vntage dm kenmore dishwasher or vintage kitchenaid

In this case I would stick with the Kitchenaid. They are FAR better built and not as rust prone as D&M are.

Setting up house: what would y'all suggest.

Wow! A Fort Smith guy! Not far away from me. My personal suggestion would be a Maytag washer and dryer while they were still being manufactured by Maytag, unless you just happen to find a really cool older set. The same goes for a dishwasher. The Maytag reverse rack DW's were hard to beat...

    POD 2-14-2020 EASY ACM Washer

Nice machine I actually had possession of this very model and it was a good, rugged well running machine. Me wonders what happened to Easy in the United States anyway. Looks like they still made machines in Mexico for a time after they did here.

Why does everyone think Maytag is so great?

The maytags of yesteryear will always set the rather high standard for washers of that vintage. The fact that there are so very many still in use says volumes. It certainly cannot be said of ANY other machines ever made.

Take a look at an old Norge washer with the rather loud tub lock. The agitation beats clothes to a pulp!!!!

1/25/2020 POD 1956 Kelvinator Washer Question

outdated... Unfortunately the Kelvinator design was very outdated. There were other machines that would wash quite a bit more than Kelvinator and their tiny tub. Rather than try to re design them with the same wash action, they decided to make them pretty generic like other machines. The...

    Never installed KDS-19

To each his own I guess. I bought this exact model back at the beginning of the 80's and absolutely HATED it. Since it did not have the top sprayer above the top rack the glasses and such were covered with little specks of debris and such. It also would stop everytime the temp was low on the...

POD 6-09-19 GE Empress 30 dishwasher

Never have owned one, but did know a family that had one back in the 70's. It was really wide, I remember that. All the impeller machines paled in comparison to spray arm machines and were much more difficult to load and fit things in to get clean.

POD WP 18 LB Washer & Bowling Family With Clean Undies

I think it might have been before harvest gold or avocado was available. I know these first models actually had a slightly larger Bakelite agitator and it was in the 60's.

    POD 8/3/2019

If I am not mistaken, this set was right after speed queen dropped using the solenoid system that worked so well for so many years. These washers were problematic. The shifter mechanism didn't work very well and would end up not engaging all the way during agitation. That resulted in damaging...

    POD 8-12-19 SQ Commercial Equipment

There were two solenoids, one for agitate one for spin that engage and disengage. These machines were in my opinion, the best machines EVER made. They were literal work horses that would run 24/7 and never miss a lick and seldom required service. Even better than Maytag for running continuously.

    My Own POD Contribution

Quite unusual picture. These machines seem to be of around 1969-70, since the temp. and speed controls are not built into the coin slide box as they were right after that. Didn't know Harvest gold came out that early. These machines look pretty identical to the many turquoise machines I have...

    POD

LOL The washer itself wouldn't have been quite as horrible if the feet were cemented to the floor or it was bolted to the floor. It tended to walk when it spun the load out. It was a HUGE capacity machine, but the dryer was tiny in comparison too. Those machines just DID NOT last very long if...

    Just Bought A Vintage Dishwasher

Hopefully this model has the sprayer on the very top of the machine to get rid of particles on top of the glasses. I did have one that looked somewhat similar that did NOT have the sprayer on top and it left anything in the top rack with particles all over them. I did not find it a terrific...

    P.O.D. 5/15/2019: Kelviantor Washer

For shame for shame Kevinator washers were not bad machines and when used properly, they lasted as well as any other washer. I found them to be highly entertaining to even watch and they certainly did a good job of washing, rinsing and spinning the clothes. Like Frigidaire, they did have a...
