Site layout/navigating the ‘new’ AW site

I'm having a hard time with navigation here. The old site was uncomplicated and intuitive. This new format is not. I do appreciate that Robert took the time to make sure AWO continued on after he retired, and that Alan is working hard to answer questions and make changes/fixes, but something...

Site layout/navigating the ‘new’ AW site

I religiously used the "Latest Posts" option on Robert's version of AW from the first day it was available and quickly tried "What's New" here on my first encounter with the new format. Is it the same? No, but it did render the latest posts. I still prefer the various color shades that gave...

    Miele G5605 Drying Cycle Question

There are special notations in the technical document for models other than 4205. Thanks for the link. I hope it allows for DIY repairs that won't cost me an arm and a leg in the future, but hope even more that no repairs are needed for quite a while.

    Miele G5605 Drying Cycle Question

Thanks, Henrik. I tried to download the technical document for the 5605, but when I click on the link for downloading, it takes me to the model 4205. Apparently the technical information applies to several model numbers, with 4205 being the lowest. I'm going to download the 4205 document, and...

    Miele G5605 Drying Cycle Question

Alexander, Thanks for the information.  I suspected there was a reason behind the lack of a no-heat drying cycle but it hadn't occurred to me that the concealed heating element could have anything to do with it.

    Miele G5605 Drying Cycle Question

Right now the weather station around the corner from me is registering a temperature of 100.  The dishwasher is full and ready to run, but the central AC is running steadily and although I always use heated drying, I'd rather not today given the circumstances.  I checked the user guide didn't...

    1965 Maytag set

Great score!  I think that color is "Cordoba" or something like that, and a fairly rare one.     I've never been much of a fan of these TOL models due to the lack of user control over certain washer functions, but I can see how an all-buttons panel wouldn't be so bad for the dryer.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - Please Read This...

Dear Robert, I happened upon this site while searching on line for full-size front-loading washer reviews after yet another belt replacement was needed on our '97 Amana TL.  I didn't hesitate to join, and one of the big reasons in addition to its content was your impeccable work on navigational...

    LG Fridges are junk!

LG's so-called "smart" TVs aren't any better.  Mine has a mind of its own and the OS is slow as molasses and aggravating to use.  On-line comments confirm it's not just me who feels this way.

    Vintage Philco Range

I'm no fan of electric stove tops, but like Dan said, this one is so perfect that I'd probably be willing to revisit the many decades of using my mom's '49 Westinghouse.  This range has the mirror image layout and maybe the T&K burner elements are superior to Corox.  The deep well pot and its...

PSA: Reply # versus date & time

Post number is another way to identify a reply, but providing the date and time makes it easier.  I'm willing to deal with the issue of reply numbers that don't match what I see in exchange for the ongoing relief that the hide option affords.

Okeefe and Merritt Dual Fuel Range

I was super curious about a dual fuel range of this vintage, and then I realized it was a trash & gas model.  I had a cream with orange accents TOL trash & gas Wedgewood from 1937 for a while and loved using the trash burning feature for little odds and ends, but never for actual cooking.  The...

    Input/Thoughts appreciated

The Philco stove is a real beauty.  Considering it has a clock and a minute timer, is the blank plate between the burner controls reserved for something else, and if so, what would it be?

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

I forgot to mention that among my spare Blendor carafes, the thickness of the glass varies.  One of them came with the snap-on handle attachment and it's thicker than the others, in addition to having a greenish tint to the top rim of the carafe, similar to vintage Coke bottles.  The handle fits...

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

Great work, Jon Charles!   It appears that the taller, slimmer version of the "waterfall" tiered motor housing was indeed the first style per the patent documents.  I've never seen one in real life.  It's a shame that they dropped the original blade design.  The symmetrical blades that...

    Tv lamp socket

Derek,  here are some pictures I took of a dusty old panther lamp that may help.  I think the way the socket attaches fits Steve's description above.  Ultimately, you may have to take your lamp to a lighting shop since the fittings seem to be specialized.  They may just sell you the parts for a...

    KitchenAid stand mixers

After seeing those pictures, I don't feel so bad about having a couple of extra mixers and pressure cookers.

Let me guess.  The OP was made on a cell phone's app.

As of 2025, What are the best clean rinsing laundry detergents in the U.S ?

Arm & Hammer When I first lived with Dave, he was using A&H Washing Soda.  I hated that stuff.  I had trouble putting my socks on because they were so stiff and full of residue, and he had a very capable, nearly TOL black panel Kenmore belt drive washer.  When that giant box of A&H was empty, I...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Eddie, I know -- but when my sister lived in Berkeley, which was still a 415 area code back then (510 went live in late 1991 IIRC) I would always dial ten digits, but then our next door neighbor told me she just dialed the 7-digit number to Berkeley so I started doing the same thing and calls...
