11 Ways to Save on Laundry

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have seen the results of the colors + whites together, packed into the washer on cold water, with the cheapest dollar store detergent and it is not pretty! (it doesnt smell too pleasant either!) Some friends of ours do their laundry like this and their clothes always look dirty. they have a Whirlpool/Estate top loading washer with a 1 piece agitator, and only use the super wash 18 min. on cold water. YUCK!!!!

It honestly doesn't sound like you're saving that mu

Isn't your time worth anything? Hanging up the clothes takes more effort, and They are touting savings of $0.25? BFD! Making your own detergent, give me a break, what a bunch of hillbillies. I suppose the ingredients are free for this potion?

My Mother is always a "shake them out" person. The theory is that if you untangle sleeves and what not they will dry faster without setting in wrinkles as opposed to being all knotted up where the air can't get to everything.

If Mama says it, then it has to be true.

Well

Whilst the idea of making you're own detergent and washing coloureds and white together on short cycles in cold water is disgusting...

not using a dryer and only running full loads are very sensible ways to save money and rescources without compromising results. A dryer uses the same amount of energy as washing the same load at 60c (140F) in a front loader 5 times, so the savings are really rather considerable.

So I'd give them half a point for that. :)

what a bunch of hillbillies

Reminds me of Granny settin' up her kettle to make lye soap out by the CEment pond. Did they ever show her using the Maytags in the laundry room? Hillbillies or not, I'll bet her methods got clothes cleaner than some of these suggestions. If she did them by hand, at least the whites were boiled.

one more way to save

Try using a wringer washer and use the same wash water for a few loads. It saves water, deteregent and time. Change the rinse water a few times and everything will come out spotless. Happy washing. Gary
