I LOVE this thing ............

cool, huh ? I guess these were double the cost of "wringers" back in the '30's and were considered the "Cadillac" of washers.

1931 Easy Spin Dryer

Greg that is a really nice example of an early washing machine! You do not see too many of these anymore, let alone one in that condition. I love the 1930's green color, and the polished brass "washing arms". Did they go back and forth,or up and down?
Do be careful about too much use of a machine like this one. After all you have been liberated to the Automatic Era. Do not risk "scrubbing away your youth and beauty" by over use of a non-automatic machine such as this one! Please! There are easier wash days...

That agitator looks like you put your dining room chandlier in the washing machine! The brass finish on that thing is nice!

wow

That machine's really ornate. Looks totally 1930s

Do those "balls" actually wash well?

What are they made of ?

Hi Greg, I would love to see any videos you make.

I'm pretty sure this agitator was much more common in the 30's, before the gyrating agitator bacame popular. In one of the early "Little Rascals" shows, one of the Rascals is sitting atop an agitator in a washing machine while it is running. He seems to be going up and down, as well as around the tub. I wonder if they just made the action up, or if that was the true action of some washer agitators.

Anyway, please send me any videos you have made. My email address is:

Thanks, Matt

Pretty Easy

Gregm,
My brother snatched an Easy ringer out of my Grandmothers barn last summer, ( my dad was going to heave it) it may be close in age as it has the same wonderful green enamel; the conventional agitator that is very Kelvinator looking. Is the spinner cover disc on yours "weighted" ? About 22 years ago when I was living in SF there were a lot of Mom & Pop type
reconditioned appliance stores. I remember seeing an Easy
newer than yours, but very late 30's or early 40's perhaps with conventional agi , beautiful chrome strip vertical accents, very deco; It also had a hinged, locking spinner lid with a heavy thick disk; what a fool to not plunk down the $125.00!Yours is very handsome.

answer to some above questions

I am not sure of the speed of the spinner, but it is pretty fast. I want to guess somewhere between 650 and 700rpm. The "bells" are chrome plated brass. It is so cool to watch and it really pushes the clothes around suprisingly with alot of splashulation. << "thats a jetcone term". AND yes, frontaloadotmy, the spin cover is weighted and locks down, its the only way you can spin is the cover must be down. The spin basket water can drain back into the other tub if you want. Just place the drain the hose in the wash tub. For those of you who provided your email above I am emailing the video now. I have "dial-up" so it takes 40 minutes roughly for me to upload a ten second video ......... uuuuuggghhhh ....... so I hope you all get it OK ......... best regards, gregm

ask a favor....

Maybe you could upload the clip to a couple of members who have faster connections and they would send it out for you. I know I'd be more than happy to help out if I could...

thanks Jeff

thank you duetboy, Jeff, for your offer, another friend of mine offered too, so I think I am allset, but if not, I will let you know, thanks again ........

Thanks so much for taking the time to send the video out Greg. I know what that is like with Dial Up. Best money I have ever spend was to change to DSL. Greg I can't believe the wash action in that machine. Thanks again. Terry

Matt ..........

Matt, I just asked my friend John, (coldspot) to forward it to you whereas he has a much faster connection than I ........ I thought I had sent it to you, my apologies .......

Thanks so much for sharing this video!! I've often wondered how those machines worked. I couldn't believe the power ... wow ... the precursor to Frigidaire! I would guess you pull the agitator bells off at the top so you could remove the clothes?

How far up can you fill it with water?

Great machine ... thanks again.

Geoff
