Hi all, as some of you may recall, I just recently found myself an old aluminum tub Maytag wringer washer. I finally got the new motor and installed it. yay! Let her run for a few minutes in "neutral", everything seemed to be going just fine. Then I slipped the gear shift lever down into "drive" and it started to agitate just fine! Nice long, relatively fast 180 degree strokes. However, after awhile, it started to make a knocking noise, and the strokes were only about 90 degrees and not smooth. I really really really hope this is a problem of the drive not fully engaging and NOT a problem of stripped gears in the transmission? What do you guys think? Am I gonna have to take the transmission apart?
