Hey everyone,

I am new to the forum! I have 1950 GE Astroliner stove. I picked this up for FREE this past June, and the thing has been working great up until the bake element shorted out this past week. I have been trying to contact some places, but nobody is getting back to me, which makes me believe this part is going to very hard to find. Maybe someone on here can help me.

Most...

Older appliance and furniture stores have dozens of bake and broil units hanging in the back somewhere, take it with you and start looking, it shouldnt be hard to find a replacement, I think that one had a baffle over it originally, the new one probably wont, but will still work fine...just so the terminals are the same.

Try Modern Parts in Parma, Ohio.  216 661 6966.

Larry had lots of vintage oven elements when I was last there, so it's worth a try!

Actually the baffle over the Calrod did not prove satisfactory; there was more mass in the Calrod than in the open coil bake element and that coupled with the baffle kept the radiant heat too high at the bottom of the oven and led to over browning on the underside of things baked. Also the squiggley bake element added more mass than was needed so the newer bake elements had straight sides.
