1953 Hotpoint dishwasher. I got a "new" timer motor installed but the inlet valve is still not opening. I have done some troubleshooting and think the timer, inlet valve and its circuit is fine. I believe the problem is the "measuring coil" is not allowing the inlet valve to open. Does anyone have any idea of what I try next? The manual says if the measuring coil is bad the entire connection box along with the coil must be replaced.

Note: When a current is applied to the inlet valve directly (hotwired) it opens normally. This is why I suspect the measuring coil.

Have you taken the measuring coil apart and make sure the contacts are clean and the springs aren't broken? It could be rusted closed or just dirty.

Worse comes to worse you can convert the dishwasher into a time fill dishwasher. That would mean replacing the measuring coil with a special relay that has an adjustable time control like this. I've used these relays for several projects so if you need assistance I can help you with that.

Another thing I should mention is timer does specifically call for 90 seconds of possible fill time. Of course the coil is suppose to cut-off the water flow if proper water level is reached before 90. I had this dishwasher in my kitchen for several years and you could tell where the perfect water level is just by listening to it. You could always just wire the fill valve directly into the INLET cam's terminal wire and then turn your water pressure down at the shut-off valve if 90 seconds it too much, which it probably is.
