1955 Norge Timeline has a New Home!

Well, thanks to Robert for giving me a wonderful lead on this, I finally have a Norge Timeline! Cabinet in decent shape, a little rust around the rim of the cabinet around the tub and thankfully the machine was kept indoors all these years. Lots of oil leakage from underneath so suspect a transmission failure of some kind. For fun, I plugged it in and it buzzes during the fill cycle but I cannot advance the timeline dial. Not sure if I should lube it up with Liquid Wrench, etc. So for now, this will be another “retirement” project along with my 1954 Frigidaire.

I hauled the machine in the back of my truck for about three hours, and in the middle of the trip, stopped for gas. Despite the fact I had duct-taped the lid shut, to my horror, the tape had come off and the lid was in the “up” position. It seems now the lid hinge(s) is bent and the lid won’t fully close as you can see in one of the pics.. Hopefully that will be an easy fix.

Am very excited about this project and many thanks to Robert for leading me to this awesome treasure!!

Did you have the machine turned with the front toward your truck's cab?  That's the wrong way.  Should be with the front of the machine toward the tailgate so the lid does not face into the "wind" when the truck moves along.  (Although I know CA has been having very strong winds so maybe it wouldn't have mattered.)

On a Norge?  That never happens!

 

My mom had the matching gas dryer.  I don't think she ever had this model of washer, though.  I would remember if both had been matching.  I think her first Norge washer was a little newer, and that it replaced her EASY Spindrier.  I think it lasted about ten years or so before some sort of catastrophic failure.  No surprise there.

Well, I had the machine in the back of my truck sideways and have hauled so many machines like that before (with the lid duct-taped down) and never had a problem. Anyway, not the end of the world and now need to plan a wash-in/restoration party for the Norge and Frigidaire!!

Congratulations, Todd!   I'm not sure what may have caused the oil drip; I'd suspect a bad seal on the transmission dome.   Be careful with that Timeline timer - the '56 I had also seemed to have a frozen timeline which I 'solved' with brute force and wound up bending the timer carriage...  When the time comes, I'd suggest removing the whole timer unit and giving the cog that the timer dial rides on a good marinating in PB Blaster.  You're likely going to have to replace the bulbs while you're at it - after all, the Timeline dial deserves to be lit up!

 

Curious to see if yours still has the "Safety Spin" lid switch and relay - mine had been bojacked out long before I got it.
