1955 Unimatic

I am in the process of restoring the '55 Unimatic that I acquired a few months ago.  The water valve is completely shot.

I know there are probably none to be had but can you use a newer valve on this machine.  If so, what would be the best valve to use.  Any help and ideas are very much appreciated.

The water valve in the '55 Unimatic was a two solenoid Hot solenoid and Warm solenoid valve. You can use any new water valve in the machine however all new valves are Hot solenoid-Cold solenoid valves. That means You'll have cold rinses. No you could wire in a relay to make a warm rinse, but that will take some studying of the wiring diagram and some experimentation.

Also with new valves you'll have to slow down the water flow otherwise it will overfill as new valves don't usually have a water pressure flow-regulator. I have used a ball gate valve on the valve to fill flume hose, 1/4" like this but you'll need to screw on hose barb connectors on both ends. Then you can adjust the handle to 2.5 gallons per minute.

Thanks Frigidaireguy and Robert. I had about driven myself crazy trying to find flow washers that would slow down the water fill to keep over fill at bay. I will be make a trip to the hardware store tomorrow.
