I Have a 1956 portable GE Mobile Maid portable Dishwasher in mint working condition even have the original manual. I would like to sell it anyone know what it's worth?
This is a beautiful machine and the exact one we had down to the very detailed booklet, but it's not 1956. It is more like '59. The various styles of impeller protectors mark the years from 1957 on. That is a wonderful dishwasher. We were thrilled with ours.
Mike, as much as I want this, I think this one is destined for you. It's killing me because it looks like it's in good condition. I don't think I can afford the shipping from Canada. Go for it, and then take plently of pictures.
I love those subject tabs in the booklet. No other GE DW booklet was so detailed. I remember the admonition under the Loading tab , "Rack them where the water can reach them and the impeller can see them." There is also something in there about the little drop of water that does the cleaning does not like to be turned into a dirty puddle in things that are not loaded properly. There are wonderful remedies for stain & hard water film removal.

A lot of things run together in my memory. If you look at pictures of the inside of bowtie impeller machines, you can see how the guard evolved over the years. The stainless steel hardware cloth grate was the last of three designs. I don't have a dog in the fight and I am sure she had no reason to make up the date.
