Has anyone in the Club ever worked on a GE Impeller Dishwasher ? She's developed a leak when she pumps out the water. Everything looks pretty basic under there. A Motor. That's it. The Model Number is 1SP40P Serial 56325524.

Cute little "bow-tie" MM.

Steve 1-18 has one but I can't remember if it has a "bow-tie".

Brent is a good dishwasher "wizard"---might want to post a memo to him.

Use it regularly for a while - the seals may soften up and begin functioning again with some use. Very hot water and get it all loosened and lubed up again...that sounds bad, but it's possible that your dishwasher just needs to be used. Mine dripped for a few loads when I first got it, but then stopped as I used it more. My friend Jamie has it now and hasn't mentioned any dribbles on the floor...

I would have to guess that the rubber spout is there to divert water away from the motor incase of motor/impeller shaft seal failure. It appears that the carbon face seal needs replacement. I would start by taking off the impeller and taking out the motor, then examine the seal. You most likely will have to replace the seal with a generic one. The reason the machine only leaks when the motor is not running is centrifugal force pushes water away from the motor shaft.

Thanks Guys

Robert,
Would you have a picture of what I'll be looking for ? I don't have any repair manuals for this machine. Or would you know a club member that has worked on one these ?
I have the KD2 and the KDS figured out as far as repairs, but this one...I would think it should be pretty basic.
Thanks Very Much, Eddie

Eddie just take the impeller off as I suggested above, then remove the motor from below. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. Then take a picture or two of the motor shaft and we can point out the seal to you.

GE had a special puller to remove the drain impeller from the motor shaft on this model , and a press to reinstall it. I always replaced the complete motor and pump assembly when this happened. Try to find a service manual before taking it apart. Jeff
