Fascinating.
My mother's aunt woeld make my mother rinse the clothes in the bathtub (after a complete automatic cycle)and hang them up to dry.
uhm........ See that there timer, just push, turn, point indicator to *RINSE* and pull. (or on some old Kenmores, pull, turn push). Voila- second rinse.
I wonder if it from the female instinct that touching is *nurturing and love*. Every article of clothing must be individually touched and handled. Watch a woman load a washer in the laundromat or unload it and load the dryer. Every article, one-by-one.
It is bizarre~ I watched a friend of mom's salt a tray full of chicken drumsticks to be cooked. Both sides of each piece....... one-by-one. Hon, salt the one side of the tray, then turn them ALL over and salt the other side. Boom. Boom. Boom.
*SIGH*
I sometimes think BOTH genders have an instinctual need to play with water. Some people REFUSE to use a DW, even when it COMES with a house. The need to frolick with water, methinks.
