The 58 Bendix Duomatic that has been resting in my garage for the summer has found a new home, Steve 1-18 from Augusta, GA was in Temple, Texas visiting with Bob (appnut) when I told him on the phone the other night this machine was available. He jumped in the van and drove 14 hours yesterday to grab it! Here he is with his new baby - a very nice combo in gas and a dry-run in the garage seems to check out pretty good so far...

Steve I am so very happy for you!!! What a great machine. So good to see you again as well. Have fun. Terry

YAY!

Congratulations Steve, what a beautiful machine! Love those "jet-engine" controls!

Greg, let's see some more pictures of your new "ride" on the Super forum! ;-)

congrads steve

nice talking with you on the phone today, congrads again, uuummm Greg, it looks like summer still there, GREEN tree in the background and green grass ???? guess that tree and your lawn have not "turned" yet ..........hhmmmm, trees are past peak here and things are getting brown pretty quick. Another two to three weeks and it will be "grey stickville" for another six months.

Way cool, Steve! That multi-colored push button control panel is Bendix best I think. Brent and I both need onen so we can have a real duomatic get together here in Atlanta!

WOW

I saw this machine in person in the back of Steve's van (as much as I wanted to, I couldn't quite convince him to let us move it down to the Studio for a test run though, as it weighed 1250, then later on in the evening, 1350 pounds!) and it is a BEAUTY to say the least. It is in absolutely FANTASTIC shape, even the rubber on the door boot (which Steve thought was original) was in like-new condition!

Wait until you hear where the machine originated!

It totally slipped my mind because it has been at Greg's so long.....
The big thanks for all of this is Steve Riley's getting it to Greg's house from the get go.
He really had to work hard to get this all to work out!
Just wanted to get that story started.
It is fun, and very interesting to say the least. This was no easy job folks!

The machine began it's life in South Bend, IN as did all Bendix appliances and then apparently was sold and used in the San Fransisco area until it was bought by a guy in Kansas City, MO. He had it shipped there, played with it for a while and then ownership came to Kim (washndry) in Michigan. Kim arranged for Steve (gyrafoam) and Chris from St. Louis to pick it up on their way to Omaha to pick up some other machines from in back in June. It's been in my garage since then until Kim decided it needed a new owner and that's how Steve ended up with it. Steve left Bob's (appnut) in Temple, TX last week - drove to Omaha and then back to Temple. From there, they carted it to the wash-in at Glen's and Austin's and now Steve is driving it to Rhinnie's family's for his memorial service and internment and then it will be on the road again to it's (hopefully) final home in Augusta, Georgia.

That's a lot of miles for even a Bendix!

Amazing!
This is one Bendix that got around.
Wonder if there is a section in The Guinness Book of Records for this?
Brent

Well Steve, your rollermatic began it's life in Dayton, OH, ended up in Tulsa, OK, brought to Omaha by me from Tulsa, then Steve R. brought it back with him to Atlanta and now it's with you down on the Redneck Riviera (I love that!) so it may not have as many miles on it as the Bendix, the blood, sweat and tears you have in it has got to be worth something!

It's interesting that there are a quite a few machines that in one way or another can be credited to Steve (gyrafoam) for lending a hand in saving, rescuing and finding good homes for. He's like a one-man Sally Struthers for washers! Just fifty cents a day...

OMG

I can just imagine Sally crying her eyes out going "Just 50 cents a day and you can help a poor homeless washer find a place to live and someone to love"
