almost right

Thanks guys-it was refurbished by Ohio jukebox co several years ago and worked great for a long time but now wont scan at all-the coin mechanism is disabled and there is a free play button on the side-it now just buzzes when pushed like it used to when it had reached the point where it would not take any more credits-odd Ken you would ask about the scan twice deal because that is what it did when I first got it!
THANKS

Help offer

Hi,

If you let me know what it is doing exactly, I can probably offer some assistance.

Try this first

Hi,

Does it accumulate credit (select light turns on when you press your free play switch)?

Just for grins, open the dome (the upper glass to access the records from the front). There is a service switch on the left. Move the switch to scan and release. Does the mechanism scan? If yes. Move the switch back to play mode.

Let me know on these and we can go from there.

scan

Yes,that caused it to scan twice then park but no change otherwise.Let my try to explain better what it does. When it was working, each time you pushed the free play switch the green light came on and you had 3 selections. But it would only hold so many songs in its memory-I dont remember exactly how many but about 20 or so.If you pressed the free play button again it would just buzz until some of the songs had played, then you could add more before all of them played.Hope this helps, and I really appreciate the time you are spending to help me.Mike at Ohio Jukebox did a great job on it,but it weighs 302 lbs and I really dont want to take it up there if I dont have to-I miss playing it!

Dummy

I forgot to tell you that now it only buzzes when you push the free play button and the green light doesnt come on-like its memory is already full.
thanks again

OK

Your info helps.

First off, what you hear buzzing is the credit unit solenoid. This flicks a tab on a wheel (acutally three per buzz) to give you three selections. I am not sure what pricing unit you have exactly, but it seems you have one that counts up past $1.

Do you have the manual for the machine? If not, order a set from Always Jukin.

Now, the "memory" for selections is not set by your free play button. The free play button has been wired in by Ohio Jukebox to simulate dropping a quarter into the coin box. This establishes credit and energizes the latch solenoid so one letter or number button stays down until another is pressed to make a selection. When you make a selection, contacts are made through the selection receiver (mounted on the back door of the cabinet and has 5 tubes total). The selection receiver then directs a pulse to the correct toroid in the tormat memory unit behind the mechanism (it is behind the record rack). This memory unit can store up to all 160 selections and though solid state, it will not erase when the power is off.

Now for your next assignment. There is an RCA type plug on the selection reciever going to a gold colored unit with a 12AX7 tube just above the 2050 tube. This is the pulse amplifer. Remove the RCA plug and take a D cell battery (do not use any other type) and place the negative (flat side of battery) against the pulse amp metal case, and then touch the RCA plug momentarily to the positive side of the battery. This will energize all the toroids in the tormat so all records are selected. Go back to the scan switch and move it to scan to start the mechanism, then quickly move it to play. It should start to play selections. This test will verify that the read out components are working. If Yes, as I suspect. We need to move onto either a credit issue or read-in (selector) issue.

Let me know.

an accessible juke and continuous play

Is there a way to make a Seeburg (or any vintage box) just play all of its records, without having to push buttons (like A1, A3, A4, B5, B7, ETC...)? I mean like have a toggle switch that if you have it one way, it's the standard establish credit, then select, and if you toggle it the other way, it just plays every record endlessly until you toggle it back.

When Bri and I tie the knot we want a juke so I'm looking into all the possibilities. The juke needs to be "accessible" as it the title strips and the buttons are down low and visible so someone in a wheelchair can use it. So far the only qualifying jukes for that are 51-58 Seeburgs, Wurlitzer 1015, and Rowe/AMI Bubbler (the repro bubblers are actually perfect). She wants a new bubbler, I want a vintage Seeburg.

My last post

I forgot to mention to re-insert the the RCA plug into the pulse amplifier after using the D cell battery. Then hit scan/play with the service switch.

Continuous Play

There is no way to have a switch select all the records in the machine on any Seeburg, at least not easily.

On my seeburg SMC2, (same for SMC1 and SMC3), you can put it in service mode and have it play all the records continuously. This is the only machine I know of that can do this. I do not know rock-ola, Rowe, or NSM machine logic so it may possible with those.

I am pretty sure if you get a recent to new Repro CD bubbler, you can have them do random play, etc, as these have features not found in location type units, since these are marketed for home game room use.

Check out the websites for the current juke manufactures to see what is available (Rock-ola, NSM, Rowe).

I own a rockola 478 from 1979. It will play all the 45's in service mode. Also has the radom play at 5,15,or 20 min. when the unit has not been play for a short time.

Most rockolas with the micro computer work the same you can set the price from 5 cents to $2.00 a play how may you would like per play pluse set up bones play for every so many min or plays.

The units should if not been change out take 5,10,25,50 cent coins. There are some rockols that could be used from a wheel chair.

Also the size of the boxes are any where from small to super larg like mine is 5 foot wide. They made a lot of short styls to you can see alot of these on ebay.

sorry about the muit post. But forgot to say. You could also by a wall box that also plays ever song that you can select from the box. Easy to hook up to.

Thanks

I either want a juke from the 50s (almost any with the titles and buttons down low will work) or a 45rpm new bubbler. No CD's. Remember, CD jukes killed the 45 machines. Ironically the Wurlitzer 1015OMT has title strips angled almost straight up so Bri couldn't use it. The Rowe/AMI 45rpm bubbler has titles and buttons very easily reachable from a wheelchair.

If you got your self a juke from the 50's you can add the wall box an make an play all the soungs right from the box. Plus they look cool they can be mounted any high any place. Just needs the stepper for the jukebox an some cable to hook it up.
I love mine put it right over the bar so I can play songs with out getting of my big rump.

First test Selectomatic 160

Mike-found the gold box as ordered-pulled the RCA-did the thing with the battery to no avail-made 3 tries. The battery used was not brand new but lit the mag-lite ok-would the battery need to be brand new?if not,I am ready for my next assignment.THANKS!

Verification

So,

After you did the battery trick, and used the service switch to start the scan, then quickly put back into play mode, it just scanned twice and stopped?

I need to go into the manual a bit and see what to do next. If your answer to the above is Yes, I truly expected it to be a credit/write in problem, not a read out.

I will post tomorrow evening with more info.

Mike
