HMMM-looks like for your 275 bucks you get a unit that has been boned like a fish----wheres the TT???It does have a SW band on its tuner-you could use this with our S4005 AEG Telefunken 500Kw SW transmitter!
if I ever saw one. These Euro sets were invariably low power and almost always fed crappy smallish oval speakers, they didn't sound 1/2 bad at low levels but don't expect great sound otherwise... they had lots of radio bands though!
Our German neighbors had a Grundig Majestic(I think) unit that was similar in size and it looked like the attached photo here. It was almost NEVER used. Our neighbor, the father, didn't want anyone to touch that console. I never heard the record player, BUT the radio band dial was mesmerizing. At the time, about the early-mid 1960's, I was dxing using an Aunt/Uncle donated floor model Zenith and I liked the linear arrangement of SW bands on that Grundig, as well as the lighted dial.
The Grundig untis I used-a friend in high school had one-sounded GREAT!!!I used to have one I bought ferom a yard sale.I had to move-so I donated the unit to Goodwill.Grundig always had low powered amps to our standards-but they did sound good.Thge one I bought from the garage sale was mono-but clean mono at that. The SW section sounded great-used it to monitor VOA stations from at home.A lucky tech at the VOA DC plant collected a NICE Telefunken table model radio-AM.FM and SW.One of the correspondents in the VOA German service gave it to him for fixing his edit machine.when the collegue carted the unit into the shop everyone gathered around it.The unit worked just fine-again I tried tuning SW VOA stations from Greenville on the set-worked GREAT!!!Now if only I had fixed the mans edit machine? When I worked at VOA DC site watched the German language service shrink to nothing. That was there first language service they broadcast!
just low power... they sounded fine as they were intended to be used up to a certain point. But if one expected to put on the 1812 Overture and listen at concert levels one would be bitterly disappointed! That said, they were not intended or designed for that. Perhaps my hearing would be better these days if I'd listened at those more moderate kind of levels all these years.
Low power Grundig Telefunken sets-yes,agree these are not for concert hall levels. They did well for normal listening level. Was amazed at how well they did with their low powered amps and banana split bowel oval speakers.Liked how the VOA broadcasts sounded over these, though.and remember SW broadcasts are limited to no more than 5Khz response. Some of our transmitters are flat to 10Khz the former Continental 420A and the present GE 250Kw with direct coupled tube high level plate modulators. The direct couple modulators work well-but a MINOR failure ends up in major ARCS&SPARKS!!!Sometimes even blown LV power supply transformers-not fun wrestling those in and out of the transmitter cabinet. The audio processors limit the response to no more than 5Khz-generall 100-5Khz.SW listeners aren't in the position to appreciate bass below 100 hz since most of their radios have the small 4 in speakers anyway.
