1960 Kenmore 80 center post repair

I'm working on a 1960 Kenmore. The center post has rotted so badly at the bottom that I don't want to use it for fear of leaking. How do you fix this? Do I need a whole base plate, or can the center post be replaced somehow?

Unfortunately yes you must replace the whole baseplate.

Don't give up...

Most of the base plates for these machines were similar or the same over a 15+ year period, so it should be easy to find one from a donor machine. I think these would include the 10,12 and 14 pound capacity models built through the mid 70's.
