1960 Multi-Matic capacitor question

Hi all,
Have a few questions related to the capacitor that's used for some 120V AC motors and hopefully some guideance with deciphering what all the numbers mean imprinted on the side. The capacitor is on a 1960 Multi-Matic and one of the terminals corroded to the point that it broke off. The numbers on the side of the capacitor is:

Delco Products Div.
General Motors Corp.
Dayton Ohio
5526122 - Which i believe is the stock number or part number
243-292 MFD - ?
110 VAC 60 CYC - 110 Volts 60 Cycles
K-1-59 - ?

anyone have an idea as to what the numbers with question marks mean and where would be a good place to start looking for a replacment?

the 243-292mfd is the microfarad rating and is the important
number when looking for a replacement.
k-1-59 is a date code
Should be able to find a suitable replacement at an electric
motor shop or an appliance repair shop.
(expect the replacement to be a little smaller than the
original)

forgot to mention the microfarad rating does not have to be
exactly the same as original-just has to be close to the same
range.
BD and DD WP/KM, franklin and westinghouse washers also use capacitor start motors and one of those might have one of the
right rating.

Make sure you get a motor start capacitor, not just any typical capacitor in that range.

My '63 WCI had a capacitor that was specifically notched at both ends to fit TIGHTLY in a bracket. I gutted out my old capacitor (the old caps have PCB's, so use rubber gloves!!!!), and wrapped a few layers of duck tape around the new capacitor so it would fit tightly inside the old gutted up one. Worked perfect!!

Here's a Mallory motor start capacitor made in the USA. It would be sacrilegious to use anything else in a an old American made product.

Here's a Mallory motor start capacitor made in the USA.

Excellent Dan!! That Mallory is almost identical to the Delco that originally came with this machine. The only difference is that the Mallory has double connection posts and mine only has single posts. Thanks for the link!

I Have One Available My Dad Was A Frigidaire Dealer Back In Those Days And Still Have Alot Of Those Older Parts I Also Have The Capacitor You Are Looking For.

Question about the Capacitor

I have two washers from the 50's (Bendix and a Westinghouse) and I'm pretty sure they both have motor start capacitors.

My question: are these start capacitors the same on all motors or do they have different ratings for different motors? In other words, can I use the same one listed above on both of my machines?

No they have different ratings depending on how much power each machine needs to get its transmission or wash tub moving. Its important to check the rating on each capacitor and replace it with one that is the same or slightly higher (not less) than the original.
