Parting Out A Cool KA DW

It is not a waste at all, Jon would actually use this DW or much of it and it would provide pleasure for the many who visit and get to see one of these interesting DWs in action.

This past fall in just one day the appliance distributor behind our warehouse brought in 11 porcelain tub KA DWs that got scraped the next day. Two years ago I scraped 13 center dial MT washer and dryers when I was restoring my MT CDE750-CA900 pair, many had lighted panels and our business is still scraping WP-KM BD washers and GE FF washers every month, I brought in a gas CD MT SOH dryer last night that will be crushed Saturday AM. We along with several others in the area have given up even posting this stuff as we get almost no response.

Yes it is a shame that all these appliances cannot be saved but the best possable outcome for most of them is becomming a parts donor.  John.

Worth the trip!

Geez, It is well over 400 miles from my house and it would only sit in my garage as my wife likes machines that hold alot of dishes, but it is almost worth it just to have the drain valve, pump and washarm.

If the shipping quoted is correct, then anyone who has one of these or wants one for their collection should buy it and not look back.

there's nothing wrong...

with Imperials, we have 2 of them... I agree it'd be a shame to part it just because it's a "lowly" Imperial... they wash just fine, and they are rarer than Superbas, for the true collector... my 2 cents.

Wish later KAs had the "loop" racks instead of the pins, they tend to wear far less with use, the pin tops are almost always one of the the first places to wear and rust. The racks on this one look to be amazing.

BTW there's a NOS turquoise "Start" button ass'y for this right now on eBay.

I gotta agree, John...

As I have said in the past, "Not everyone gets to go to the Royal Ball. SOMEONE'S going to have to stay and wash the dishes..." I wish I could save every little thing that shows up in The Pile. All I can do is focus on the really nice/rare/special machines and use the uglies/nasties/unrepairables for parts to keep the nice ones alive. I must have at least 3 decent FF's hidden away to be possible parts donors for a soon to be announced wishlist find. The only others I concentrate on are the machines that satisfy other people's wishlists. By the way, if any of you have anything to look for, let me know so I can keep it on my list to look for. Kevin, Dan, Gordon and a few others can attest to the condition of 'Nevada' machines. LOL!

That being said, I'd have a hard time seeing what you see at that scrapper, John. Kinda why I don't go to animal shelters 'just to look'.

the point being...

this isn't one of the uglies, nasties, unrepaiarables... it looks to be in super condition, and Imps are rarer than Superba models. It'd be like using a '58 DeSoto Adventurer as a parts car for a 300-D.

I understand that. I was speaking in general about the haul always I see in our Pile. This is a beautiful dishwasher and I would be hard pressed to part it out unless I already had a machine that was near and dear to my heart that needed hard to find parts and then it would possibly have to live on in several other machines.

I have emailed the seller.

I am interested to know about the having it crated, etc. and if the quoted shipping cost is accurate to my home in Arkansas. This is one of the machines on my dream list and it looks like a nice one. Actually, the one I really want is the Superba Vari-Cycle but this one is close enough. From the pics it looks like this model has a heating element. Does this one heat the water at all? Isn't this the first KA model year with a heating element?

None of the 14 series machines had a water heating element.

The water sump heater was introduced on the KDS-15 model alone.

A water heating element was not introduced on an Imperial model until the KDI-16.

KDI-14 KA DW

This model does NOT have any water heating element, The first KA DW that had a WHE was the KDS-15 and from then on only the superbas had a WHE until the 19s came out, even a KDC-18 did not have a WHE, KA was really behind in this area compared to other domestic manufactures.

Wow that does look beautiful, I sure you get that Jon. I agree with those about parting out good vintage machines, while its hard to do it is a necessity in the 21st century. The collection I have now wouldn't be in such beautiful shapre if I hadn't taken multiple machines and made one absoltely beautiful one in some cases. It's the way this hobby works when you are dealing with machines that are 50+ years old.
