We have one of those in our collection with just the black Bakelite wash arm. If you believe WP, you can hang bowls and pans off the edge of the rack over the open space.

The plastic detergent cups are very fragile so be careful doing anything around or to them.

Top Rack

The top rack has 2 rolling sections one slides over the other, the flat section fits around the detergent cups. The cups are in excelent shape for its age.
I have done a quick clean up, it runs well... except it does not drain. When I have more time... I will see what the issue is.

Omg! We had that same exact dishwasher! Where did you find it? We set ours on the curb years ago, long before aw.org was around. My mom regrets doing that now.

Oh! What a great find! I have the 'one-arm' model (a 61) and it's my avatar picture! The two-arm model you have looks fantastic!

The draining issue could be a number of things - first, check the drain hose and make sure it is not blocked (the 61 darn near drove me crazy with a hose blocked due to flakes of the hose having flaked off). I have also encountered issues with the actual drain pump casing being blocked up with some kind of corroded gunk - once cleaned out, the pump was just fine. Last, it could be that the drain pump itself has given up, but I believe that there are modern washer drain pumps that can be substituted.

Chrysler Imperial Lebaron

Is that an early 70's Chrysler Imperial? I believe that is part of the fuselage styling series? What year is it exactly? It is beautiful!

It's so hard to find a 70's Chrysler (NewYorker, Newport or even Imperial) in any decent shape out on the east coast. I search online but no luck.

Do you still have the vehicle and use it?

It was a rare find indeed!
My collection is being refined to top load only, especially Whirlpool.
I have a list of fantastic built ins I will need to find new homes for...anyone interested?

Re: de-accessioning the built-ins... any Frigdaire FL'ers say circa 60-64-ish? Tryind to find one like our first machine. In colors would be even better!

Cool! This would be a fun find - I love the wash-arm and rolling racks.

 

A neighbor of ours had one just like this they were given by some people moving out of state.  They had four kids and a lot of dishes.  Thrilled with their new-found drudgery-saver, they loaded it up and started the cycle.  A couple of hours later they couldn't imagine why it was still running.  Turns out the timer was bad and just advanced through the "Off" and started the cycle over again.  They were clean dishes for sure.  They never did fix it, or use it again, but the Mrs. liked the extra counter space and used the interior to store grocery bags.

It's a 1972. Unfortunately I don't own this car, I got the picture of it off the net. Sorry if I mislead you in any way lol. I just love the 72 model year of this car and have quite a few pictures of them. The fuselage body style era was from 1969-1973. Again sorry for making you think this is my car. Top View

The tub has a pink plastisol interior.
The upper wash arm is suspended with a SS rod that clips into tabs, the feed tube fits into a hole in the center of bottom wash arm.

I would say that the two missing words would be rinse and then dry. Seems like the logical sequence on the timer.

David thanks for posting the interior. Now I can see how the upper arm hangs. And the upper rack I assume moved back and forth for loading the botton. Does anyone know if the mechanics of this machine is like the first front load WP design?

The bottom filter system looks like in the picture of a front load that was posted a while back.
Is this model a D&M?

NO!  This is a 'true Whirlpool' - D&M did make dishwashers for Whirlpool up to 1958 or 1959 (I never get that right).

 

This was a huge breakthrough for them and they came up with a very effective and poweful wash system.

Well said Paul WP DW and D&M should never be mentioned in the same thread. WP DWs were always vastly superior to ANYTHING D&M ever made. Yes peter this TL portable did share most of the mechanical parts with the first WP built Built Ins.

Point of referance

Is it 1963?
The reference I used was a ad posted for sale, the seller of the ad was stating 1962.
I'm glad the serial number was decipherable to pinpoint the date.
Good to know the amount of knowledge of each member....this is what makes it fun to be a part of this group!

WP PORTABLE DW

The model # designates the model year, sKp 55 the K means that it is a 1963 model, it could have been made in late 1962 as appliances like cars usually came out a bit early as everyone was trying to get the jump on the competition in those days.

 

It is really cool to see this machine with the SS upper wash-arm, this may have been WPs first DW with a upper wash-arm. The next generation of WP DW had an all new combined circulation and drain pump, these models had a large round white plastic filter in the bottom. On these machines the upper wash-arm looked exactly like yours except it was pink plastic.

Newer WP TL DW

David is this newer WP a Coppertone one that came from a guy in Connecticut? If it is it may be the one I gave away about 10 years ago. I wish I had kept it as I now have a KA TL portable in my kitchen that I don't like as well.

Neat!  I have the 'Canadian cousin' of this machine, an Inglis Royal top-loader.  I have only used it a couple of times, but it did a great job.
