I have that Lady K dryer in pink and it only cost me a few bucks at the Salvation Army. Kevin just gave me the matching dryer in white. As I rebuild it, I'm thinking hard on refinishing it in pink as well to match...

I know for $1,000.00, they better be in "better than mint" condition. They had better be in "new" condition, and with a clean-up and a tune-up, they better run right out of the box.
Ain't NO WAY in hell. Not for $1K.
I could've had my aunt held onto her 1963 LK's when they went kuput and then had them rebuilt for WAY less than that. She had THAT SAME set in THAT SAME color.

Beautiful set, but the mechanical condition is unknown, still these could make good daily drivers for someone. I would estimate to send these through our shop to put them both in top mechanical shape and re-coat or replace center-posts and outer tub it would cost a thousand dollars. But when you consider what you have afterwards $2000.00 is very reasonable, has anyone here ever been involved in restoring an old car? you can easily spend $100,000 on a similar car project. My partner has four cars in his shop now that have passed the $100,000 mark and are not finished yet.

this set has been on and off craigslist since about June. they started at something like $1400 or $1600 and have lowered the price a bit, but still too pricey for me, if they were 1/2 the price I would have them

They are about 20 min from me...tempted to go look at them and leave them an offer if no one buys them....judging by the fact they are listed again means the world is not beating a path to their door. Plus I know there has to be other nice old sets around Western PA ...we never throw anything away if it still works...(and even if it doesn't!)

These are surely the Cadillacs of Kenmores. I've said it before, and will here again. 1963 was the pinnacle year for elegance in Kenmore design, and the Ladys were definitely the showcase. These are in fine looking condition, and hopefully will run well.

Re-porcelaining in any color
is possible and not all that expensive, I'd estimate 2-300 for the top. The rest can be painted. A lot of the Chambers range folks even change the color of an entire stove. There's a place in Indiana, I think it is, that can do it in ANY color.

From what I have heard this is very expensive and may not even be possible. I order to change color they have to sand blast all the old coating off and since the glass coating is as hard as the steel and almost as thick it is very hard not to make holes in the steel when doing so. If you are re-coating the same color and all the old does not have to be removed it may be much easier, however the prices I have heard are closer to $1000.00 per top. Makes the price of these machines look like a bargain.

Since the subject has come up, I just thought I'd mention that here in Burbank California there's an outfit called Sav-on Appliances that can do porcelain re-coats. My mom recently bought a 1950's Wedgewood stove there and they were able to change the color for her from solid white to a combination of white and pastel green. It looks fantastic, and since she bought the stove from them(and it wasn't cheap) they made this change with no additional charge. I asked them if they can re-coat washer and dryer panels in the same fashion and they said they could for about $300.00 depending on the size of the panel, but cautioned that on rare occasions, the panel comes out badly distorted by the heat involved and that they would not be liable for the loss. I can post a photo of the stove if anyone want's to see it, but I'd have to go to my folks house to take the picture first.

I had a Frigidaire washer tub sandblasted clean of porcelain and rust a few years back and the guy who did it said it came off just like warm butter with no damage to the steel. There are different sizes of the "sand" or beads that they use to shoot it with, the finer-grained is what he used on my tub - clean as a whistle. You're right, the stove "restorers" do this with porcelain tops, bowls and burner grates all the time. The sandblasting is cheap , the new porcelain is the spendy part. Not sure if it's possible to maintain the lid instructions on the underside of the washer lid while replacing the porcelain on the outside.
