Hi Riccardo, oh what a great video, Bravo! and amazing restoration as well. I love the fact that the door doesn't lock and you can open in during spin. I also loved the commercial at the end. Thank you for making such a cool video.
That is a wonderful video. My mother's first washer was a very similar machine: no detergent dispenser and a safety switch in the door. Yes, I have pressed that button too as a child! The sounds also bring back memories. Candy is not known for it's durability. I find it amazing that this machine is still working.

Thank you very much. As soon I can, I’ll prepare a pdf document showing all the steps of this long restoration. First of all I want to thank a friend of mine, Sebastian, who made with me the great work you see here. Candy made lovely machines, real design masterpieces in the Italian washing machine history. I think that Candy quality was good until the end of the ’70; after that they became to use to much plastic and the current machines are quite sh#&!
My A3 didn’t work when I got her. I disassembled her completely. I started to call almost all the Italian repair centres, and I found useful pieces (e.g. the door seal, which was completely gone). On the other hand, all the mechanics work fine, it were not damaged. My machine was previously repaired during her 43 years, and probably the motor was changed. She mounts a Candy Fullmatic motor, the one which is in the permanent exposition at the “Triennale” in Milano. So, the motor is 5-6-years older than the whole machine!
1964 series was a second “edition” of Candy Automatic, the first of which had the detergent dispenser near the timer under the blue door on the top. Due to problems of condensation, the timer corroded too fast and the machine used to break too often. So in my series, they decided to close the hole and they put the programme legend you see on the left of the red timer. So I’m forced to introduce detergent manually in the drum… and the same thing for the softener. But my machine lasted. The lady who owned that machine before me daily used her until 2004… I think she lasted quite enough!

Have just watched the vid and, have to say, the restoration looks stunning. Many congratulations on a job well done.
I saved a piccy of your machine on my computer a number of months ago and the transformation is stunning.
I have already forwarded the link to a fellow washer fan as it will serve as superb inspiration. He has just acquired another Hoover Keymatic 3224, as well as a Hoover Keymatic 3226, plus he already owns a Hoover Keymatic 3203 (the more normal looking machine with a porthole door). I know he will love it.
I have a dream. First to own a house, but a close second is to own my own Hoover Keymatic or Hoover Matchbox series or Hotpoint Liberator machine (all three if possible) and do, with the help of my dad, fantastic restoration jobs on them all, with the results looking just like your Candy.
Once again, all my congratulations on your machine.

Could you please tell what numbers on the timer correspond with which cycles? I think my mother's machine only had 6 cycles.

Candy would be the first...here in Italy peopole started to wash in the machines just wiht this WMs...we call them "le pietre miliari" of the industrial and social Italian revolution...
Then Costructa, Philco, Ignis, Rex Sangiorgio and lastly Ariston too...

It's possible that it was a Candy SAM, but I can't remember. I don't remember a 3/5 kg option though, or was it in the timer? I think I remember the timer knob was grey, a round knob with a square pointer.
IIRC my mother's machine didn't have a prewash cycle and probably didn't have the delicate cycle, but not sure about that either. Thanks for bringing back memories!

What a great video, and a real inspiration! It's so well put together and one of the best I have seen.
The door reminds me of the old indesits I used to see when I was a child. This machine seems a lot more stable though.

A great video i must say. Our neighbours had a similar machine and i loved visiting them and watching the washing machine wash.
Their machine had the detergent dispenser under a blue door on the top.
I,m not sure when they bought a new machine but i think it was around 1984-86.
