Here are the newest additions to the Kenmore collection. They came from Utah and the person told they were his grandparents and were not used from 1986 until 2008 when he began using them until recently when he used the dryer and it didn’t heat. A new set was purchased and these were moved to the garage and listed for sale. It was noticed later that a laundry basket or something on top of the dryer was moved pushing the Heat/Air lever to the air position and had gone unnoticed. They do have some cosmetic blemishes from being 55 years old and moved several times but the insides are in excellent original condition. I’ve been incredibly busy with work lately so they haven’t been wiped down or anything. I do think they will clean up nicely.

1968 Kenmore 800 pair

Wow, that was some of the nicest styling and advanced machines, it’s hard to imagine that seers was selling such an advanced pair of laundry appliances in 1968.

If you compare these to a pair of 806s or even 906s there’s no comparison and they were hundreds of dollars less expensive, and would run rings around the Maytag’s in performance.

Since I have I have experience with my Whirlpool and my Maytags, didn’t notice a huge difference. The Whirlpool may have rinsed ever so slightly better but wasn’t an earth shattering kaboom, though. Biggest gripe was there wasn’t an off balance sensor and had to wash items with like items and had to be careful with how much detergent you used or would result in a suds lock, sometimes I’d have to run the Whirlpool through a additional rinse with fabric softener to get rid of the suds. Never had issues with my Maytags going off balance and seem to rinse fairy well though you have to be mindful with the amount of detergent you use.

I didn’t get a clear picture of the dryer tag but I like to record the numbers in the text so a google search of the number will bring this post up.

Yay!

RotoFlex, without a skirt, always appears broken or incomplete.  :-)

Aunt's model with the same console and other features had a RotoSwirl.

There is (should be) a step-down to low agitation at end of the Normal cycle wash, probably in consideration of the RotoFlex's aggressiveness.  Aunt's did it even with the RotoSwirl, I vaguely recall for one increment at the 4-min mark, then back to high for the last 2 mins?

Spin Only (H) position on the timer always seemed odd to me, being in what reasonably should be an Extra Rinse sequence that doesn't function as such.

Glenn, thank you for proving my "I Knew I Wasn't Crazy and false remembering". Friends of my parents, as part of their Duplicate Bridge group, lived 3 streets over and had the same pair, but in coppertone. Their youngest son & I used to hang out on those Saturday nights somtimes when was between 12 & 14. I know they moved into the house in 1963 and knew this set was not their original laundry pair. I always wondered what those were before I started going over to their house some.

The family across the street went to our church. They had a pink Control Tower set in the laundry room.

Looks like the set I posted in Shopper Square has arrived.

They look nice, especially for their age.

The washer layout is not something I would be interested in as it has all of its options ran through the timer instead of separate individual switches.

The machines ran great for 55 year old laundry equipment. They will both need some maintenance work but I was impressed with the initial tests. I was a little concerned about an automatic only dry control but it was amazingly accurate. It dried a large load of towels in 50 minutes and I noticed the soft heat feature kicked in. I replaced the non working drum light and fluorescent light and ballast on the dryer so I could get these obligatory pictures. The washer is missing the bulb cover which I assume is the difference in lighting color.
