No. It's a model RSE36S FRIGIDAIRE'S "Super" model that was Rated number one in CR back then from 1971 to 1977. It was the same style they had for their first ceramic top range.

Chuck is right, it can't be older than 1971.

The 1971 "S" model changed from black trim on it's control panel to woodgrain trim. Note that the shape of the lock latch also changed from the 1968-70 style to the newer style that lays flat in unlocked position in 1971. The RSE3-36S from 1973-74 was almost unchanged from the RSE-36S of 1971-72.

BTW, "R" stands for "Range", "S" for "Super", "E" for "Electri-Clean" - "36" is for the style of range (30" wide with one 8" burner and three 6" burners, a clock but no fluorescent light) and "S" is for 1971 models which were produced in 1972 and 1973-74 with a "3" added after the "E" (RSE3-36S).

The one you posted in the other thread in the link below is the previous "P" model that was made in 1969-70 but could have been sold a bit later too...

Chuck,PhilR - thanks. I believed that those thicker radiantubes were gone by the 1970 mark; so , up until 1979 when Frigidaire was sold to WSMC, did all their stoves use the thick radiantube elements?

PhilR (or Chuck): Thanks for pointing out the differences. Any idea when the last ceramic top range was made in the Frigidaire world?

The RadianTube elements were used until WCI changed them over to the Westinghouse design. They also had the Ceram a Top models too. My favorite was their. Touch N Cook. I had two..bb one in Harvest Gold. The other, Poppy Red.

Touch N Cook - ?

I hear so much about Touch N Cook - haven't checked out what it is, but even if I do ...I wouldn't know why some here at aw.org like it or seek it. Since you had two stoves with this feature, Chuck, what's special about it or why did you like it?

attached is a pic from 2005, aw.org

30" Frigidaire Electra-Clean Range

This was a WELL BUILT RANGE and very well designed controls, the lack of a messy oven window and the practical 3 6" elements and one properly placed 8" element made this one of the best ranges for an everyday range for many homes.

The only negatives were the lack of a way to reduce the broilers heat and those terrible thick mono-tube elements, they never stayed flat.

from 2005, aw.org, a thread that you, Chuck, and PhilR spoke about Frigidaire ranges. I'm glad you're still around here to offer information, even though, with enough digging, one can find alot of answers. But, this touch n cook - whatever it was, looks like it wasn't offered or part of the standard radiantube type stoves.

That's right, the Touch-N-Cook models all had the white Ceramatop.

I hope to get one someday! There was one for sale not too long ago on Craigslist that was posted here. It was harvest gold, in Minnesota and expensively priced ($750) but the ad didn't stay there very long.

Unfortunately, if I find one, it won't be around as Frigidaire didn't import this model in Canada. The nicest we got was the self-cleaning Custom Deluxe with the Ceramatop but with the regular controls. And still, very few were sold.

don't those Ceramatops...

tend to get stained and yucky? Never liked them as the ones I've seen were always kind of grody to some degree.

We have the '77 fancier version of the one shown above and just love it, imo build quality is better than on GEs, feels much less flimsy, the door closes like a bank vault.

Roger:

It was possible to keep first-generation smooth-tops pristinely white, but there was a catch - it was more work than keeping a conventional cooktop, with its burner bowls and possibly trim rings, clean.

You had to use the correct cleaners (the ones available then were Corning Smooth-Top Cleaner for regular cleaning and polishing, and Delete for tough stains), and you had to clean it properly after every use. Part of the trouble with white smooth-tops was that if you used a sponge or cloth that had been used for other kitchen cleaning, it was likely to have microscopic food particles in it. If you just wiped the top with one of these, it could look clean afterwards, but the next time you turned the range on, the food particles deposited when you wiped heated and darkened. Minerals in water could do the same thing.

They looked nice and space-agey, but they were actually more work; the easy-cleaning promises were basically bogus. The reason that smooth-tops are dark colors today is to avoid all this hassle.

I remember the first time I saw one of these Frigidaire Touch N Cook ranges come in for service. Just like the one in the ad, 30" in Poppy. I thought it was the coolest looking appliance I'd ever seen...and I saw a lot! It still looks nicer than anything out there that's new.

Non Heating FD EC Oven

If the oven does not heat at all, turn it on and fiddle with the start and stop dials on the clock to get it into Manuel mode.

The fact that the oven light comes on probably means the clock is not the problem, at this point assuming the top burners work fine you either have a loose burned wire connection or a bad latch switch, bad oven heat relay or bad thermostat.

Take the back off and look for wiring problems [ unplug the range first ]. and see if you can find any problems, If not find an independent repair guy with grey hair to figure out what is wrong, these were easy stoves to fix, if it needs a part that you can't find get in touch we may have the part.
