Me and my italian friend Riccardo (he is also a lover and collector of old washing machines) have picked up this old gorenje washer at my workplace.
(I work in a retailer store of home appliances, tools, hardware etc.) The washer was made the 12th of June 1972 and was really in bad shape.

We had hard time finding some new spare parts.
But nothing is impossible. Replacing the broken door was the hardest task, but a kind guy from Poland had sent us a door of a Polar washing machine which were manufactured under license of gorenje. The new door fits perfectly.
Here she is, after its reconstruction.

That is a neat looking washer!

Quite a difference between before and after pics. You did a great job on her. How about some pictures of a load in progress?

Classic Gorenje

Great restoration there, I like those bow fronted machines, whats the spin speed about 600rpm??, this machine has a few similarities to the wide bodied Hoover washing machine range, such as hinged top lid,2 strut / 4 hung spring suspension and similar vitreous enamel drum/ bearing unit!!

Its a stunner all restored, well done and looking forward to seeing more restorations, Mike

Ciao........ Not only the door, but all the machine look almost like your grandma's old Zanussi!! Zanussi produced this kind of washer (branded Rex, Naonis, Becchi, Nordton in Italy) in the middle 60's. The first series haven't the BIO Program button, only the spin button. At the end of 60's, Zanussi give the license to Gorenje for start the production of this machines. This Gorenje was really popular in Yugoslavia in the 70's. After few years, Gorenje give the license to produce this kind of washer to Polar. They only change the "look" in the years, but the machine was the same. I think this kind of washer was still in production during the 80's in East Europe, but the concept was Italian :-)

The machine next to it ......

Ciao :-)
Yeah, u r right!! The other machine in the pictures is a REX SL 124 of 1978. Produced by Zanussi. You know, in Italy the brand Zanussi was used only for the professional equipement (Zanussi professional) like stainless steel stove, fridge, oven, etc..... The REX SL 124 have the "Economy" button, for wash white fabrics at 60°C, at place of 90°C. I've changed the original plastic door with a serious glass door of an AEG, produced in Italy by Zanussi, at the same time.
Here is a picture.

Classic Gorenje

The spin speed is only 370 rpm!!!! About similarities with Hoover washer, I can't sy anything, 'cause I've never worked on a Hoover machine :-)
Ciao, Rik

Thank you Riccardo for all your explanations, but you have forgot to say just one more thing :)))
We have found another similar machine that is a few years older. The Gorenje PEA.
