Maytag dependable care, washer, water pumps

But one thing I will always hand Maytag as they have the most durable water pump of any automatic washer in the last 50 years.

But like all things to deal with water, they can eventually fail, a good used pump is probably your best bet if you need one, they don't fail with enough frequency That a used one isn't a good bet.

We still throw away Maytags every month or rather recycle them and I don't even bother saving the pumps you hardly ever need one if I do need one I use a used one.

Maytag went to the later style of pumps in 1964, perfected the pump year after year after that. Could easily interchange a water pump from a late 50’s or early 60’s Maytag with an early 2000’s Maytag Dependable Care.

While Whirlpool did change the pumps on their belt drives to plastic in the mid 60’s, would have to be replaced about every 10 years or so depending on usage.

I do have a soft spot for the older Whirlpool belt drives, but don’t know if I would want to use one long term since I’ve taken apart mine at least 15 to 20 times since I’ve owned it, then again it’s 1940’s technology.

Maytags aren’t entirely perfect, but have made only minor repairs to the Maytag A606 and A806 in my small fleet, then again that’s what’s to be expected from something that’s mid 1960’s technology (though the design dates back to the 1950’s, bugs were worked out by the mid 1960’s) that’s been perfected year after year, decade after decade.
