1977 Maytag

So I found this golden jewel on Craigslist. After a couple of text messages and an email being ignored for 2 weeks I had given up on this one when the text came this afternoon stating that after a couple of no shows it was my turn. I couldn’t return the message fast enough. It was advertised as a 1960’s Maytag although I knew by the beige control panel that it was a 1976-1980 model. I have way too many machines already and I’m not even exaggerating! But machines like this are very rare in this area. I will never turn down a colorful machine unless it’s too far away or too expensive. Without any further rambling here it is in all it’s golden glory. I haven’t had a chance to clean it up yet but for a 1977 model I am impressed. I apologize for the photos but I am not very good with modern technology and the lighting was terrible.

Thanks everyone! I probably already have around 20 of these in different models and capacities but only one other harvest gold one. There is only one other one that I have that is in this good of condition and it is a 1976 machine. That one sat in storage for a long time. The rest are white or almond. This one is an HA108 made March of 1977. It is super clean inside and out. Someone took really good care of it for the last 41 years! Everything looks original to me except for the water inlet valve. It looks like it could possibly be a knockoff Maytag replacement. All of the hose clamps are the original Maytag clamps and I find that pretty amazing. It was at a rent house that the person was selling and the way it was sitting in the garage I believe that the renters probably had their own and weren’t using the Maytag as the owner claimed it was theirs. The owner said they’ve had it approximately 5 years and that they bought it secondhand. They said the capacity was just too small for their family. I ran several loads through it last night and it runs great. The only thing I can see doing to it at this point is cleaning and waxing it. It is going to shine very nicely. The cabinet has no visible rust and very few scratches.

This is a solid Maytag. The standard capacity tubs really move a load of laundry around.

I could do 3 loads with half the electricity with this beautiful sucker in the time it would take me to do ONE load worn the modern ones — and end up with cleaner clothes. What a find and what great condition, too! Congrats!!!
